Monday: Skills Lab Tuesday: IMC Wednesday: Art Thursday: Music Friday: PE
LUNCH/RECESS: 11:51 - 12.29
Classwork Policy: Classwork will be due at the end of the class period. It is expected to be complete, done to the best of the student's ability, neat, and on time. Classwork will be graded on accuracy.
Test and Quiz Policy: Tests and Quizzes may only be taken in school and should NOT be “made up” at home if a student is absent. Students will be given time to complete these once they return to school.
Homework Policy: Homework will not be assigned, however students may need to complete classwork at home due to absence or other circumstances. It is expected to be complete, done to the best of the student's ability, neat, and on time based on the number of days absent.
Recess will not be a time to complete classwork or homework. I believe students need to be outside (or in the event of indoor recess, the ability to socialize and have a mental break) as much as possible and that recess is essential to their ability to focus and learn in the classroom.
Science:
We will use the Savvas Interactive Science text.
Science class will include going to STARBASE which is scheduled each Wednesday in October.
Science class will include hands-on activities, reading the content for understanding, and writing to grade level expectations based on the Ohio Science Standards:
Scientific method
Ecosystems
Solar system
Light, sound, force and motion
We will use interactive notebooks to keep all of our important information, like study notes, labs, vocabulary, etc… Many students in past years have found that reviewing the material and studying at home for a test or quiz is extremely important!
Science concepts may be assessed at any time after they have been taught, even if we have moved on from that unit.
Extra Credit Opportunities:
Extra credit opportunities may come in the form of review sheets or signed study guides. The science fair is also an extra credit opportunity in the spring.
Social Studies
We will use the Gallopade 5th Grade Social Studies book.
Our standards include studying:
Ancient Indian Civilizations and European Exploration
Geography of the Western Hemisphere
Learning about different forms of government
Economics
NewsDepth is a weekly news program, geared for upper elementary students, that we will watch throughout the year.
Social Studies will include D.A.R.E. with Officer Peffly. D.A.R.E. will take place from January 6-27, 2026.
