Who is Mrs. Butler?

Mrs. Butler - As Told by Her Daughter

Hi, I am Rylee. I wanted to introduce my mom, Mrs. Butler. She is not only my mom, but a mother to a small white fluffy dog, Koda; my cat, Harbor; and my dad, Shawn--even though he's an adult! She loves to spend time in our pool or on the beach where she feels most relaxed. Although she never talks about it unless necessary, she is fully qualified to be a principal and a reading specialist - not just an English teacher. She works very hard, not only to make our family happy everyday, but also the other English teachers in her department and the 100+ kids she is responsible for every day. She never complains when they (we) don't appreciate it, and just keeps working through the day. Her last hidden talent I will reveal is her amazing stuffed shell making abilities - best in the world. So I hope you enjoy your school year with my mom. She is very special to us, and we know that she will become a pretty special person to you too.

See what Mrs. Butler has to say...

Who is Mrs. Butler?

There are several different types of characterization that we will be studying this year. One is direct vs. indirect characterization. In essence, you will see “direct characterization” in our day to day interaction. You’ll know when I am joking or being serious by my tone and because of what I say. You will know my class expectations by reading handouts and online information. However, there’s always that part of a character that you don’t get to know unless you listen closely to comments and try to grasp what is being inferred. That is considered “indirect characterization.”

To help you understand indirect characterization many great examples happen during class discussions, when my screen saver is on, or during "down time in class". You may hear me talk about archery or will see a picture of a girl with gold medals around her neck. You’ll be wondering what those medals are for or who it is. That will be my daughter, Rylee. In 2019, she graduated from Penn State's Pennsylvania College of Technology with the highest honors and majored in Engineering Design and Technology. She was also a member of the school’s archery team. In fact, she is a Collegiate National Champion, an All-American Archer in Indoor and Outdoor shooting, and an Academic All-American. So, based on this information, you can tell that I am a very proud parent!

Moreover, if you look at the pictures on my desk, bulletin board and screen saver, you will also infer that I cherish my close friends and family members and would love to live on the beach!! It’s my favorite place! I've added a few pics below so that when you hear names of my family you can put faces to those names.

Finally, hopefully you will be able to determine that I love to teach! You’ll hear it in my voice when we discuss novels and techniques to make you a better reader and writer.

Have an awesome year,

Mrs. Butler
