Artifact Title: GO Night Project
Date: November of 2023
Teacher: Mrs. Muckley
JAGS Pillar: Communicating Ideas
Assignment:
This project was a very eye-opening project, as we were talking about hunger in our community, and we researched a ton of information that I didn't know before. It had a big impact on me as I saw how this affected so many people that I didn't even think that it could impact my community. I had a lot of fun working on the project and felt like I was making a difference, even though it was kind of small, in my community.
Through this project, I communicated the ideas of hunger in our community to people around me. From doing this project, I've realized that there are people who you may least expect to be the most food insecure. You never know who around you may not have enough to eat daily, and that's exactly what I'm trying to share with other people. Not who is food insecure, but the fact that people around you can be food insecure, and that it's a problem we should all face together. From this project, it helped me to become a better Global citizen by learning more about a common issue and trying to do something about it. I also learned useful skills like communication from this project, as we had to check with multiple different sites to find out who would be available for us to work for them during the same time that we were available. This project helped me communicate my ideas of food insecurity to others around me, and for that, I am grateful that I got to participate in this project.

Sophomore History:

Artifact Title: MAPS Air Museum
Date: May 14th, 2024
Teacher: Mr. Walsh
JAGS Pillar: Investigating the World
Assignment:
This field trip for history was so much fun and such an impactful trip and learning experience. I grew up going to MAPS several times with my family, as I have always had an interest in the military. From this trip, I learned a lot of things I didn't know before, and a lot of history that I didn't know before about the vehicles there. It was a lot of fun learning from the veterans and hearing all their stories as they showed us throughout the museum.
As I investigated MAPS, I was also investigating the world as I learned about all these different vehicles and exhibits. I got to learn about the Blue Angels, the different aircraft there, and even the different land weapons that have been used throughout history. I got to hear all the different stories that the veterans tell, and it made me feel a lot of different emotions, but also become more interested in the things that I was looking at in the exhibits. All the veterans there were very nice and welcoming, but also looked like guys that even in their old age, you still wouldn't want to mess with. From going to the MAPS Air Museum, I became a better World citizen by learning more about the history of the U.S. armed forces and how we were involved in different forms of combat, when WWI, WWII, Nam, etc. I also learned useful skills like how to start a jet, even though the jet wasn't on. The Veteran who was in charge of the tour showed us how to do that, which was cool. Through this trip, I had a lot of fun investigating the world around me in my community.

Artifact Title: Hawaii With The Band
Date: November 22nd-27th, 2023
Teacher: Mrs. Monigold, Mr. Gleason, Mr. Monigold, Mr. Carlson, and Mr. Hannson
JAGS Pillar: Investigating the World
Assignment:
This trip impacted me in many ways, as I saw so many different sights while being in Hawaii. This was such an amazing experience for me, and one I will never forget, as I got to do so many things and meet so many people with my friends beside me. When we were in Hawaii, we learned how to say the correct pronunciation of Hawaii, we learned how to do some of their traditional dances similar to that Haka, we learned how the community was affected by the Pearl Harbor bombing but still carried on and united as a unified people, and so many more things. The trip was amazing and I got to have so much fun, but I also had some quiet, sad, solemn moments like when we went to the U.S.S. Arizona memorial, and just like we learned about in Marlett's class, we saw a big glob of oil in the water still emerging from the reckage. There were a lot of learning experiences, but there were also fun moments, like when we went to the hidden island and got to be at the beach for practically the whole day. It was just an amazing trip with so many memories I will cherish and never forget.
After being able to go to Hawaii with the Jackson High School Purple Army Marching Band, I was able to recognize the perspectives of the people in Hawaii, their heritage, and how their lives changed after the Pearl Harbor bombing. During the trip, the band was able to go to the Polynesian Cultural Center, and we learned about all the different Polynesian islands and how their heritage differs from each other in their ways. It was an amazing night, and we got to learn how to dance the way they do, play games that they do, and speak a little bit in their native language. I got to visit the U.S.S. Arizona, and it opened my eyes; it was a very solemn experience. From this trip, I grew as a World citizen by understanding history that has not been taught in schools, and that is important to understanding the culture of the Hawaiian people. I also learned interesting skills from the Polynesian Cultural Center, like how to spear throw, even though I probably won't need to know how to do that. I learned a lot from that trip, and especially learned the perspectives of the locals who live there and what their families went through, and how they carried on as one collective whole.

Artifact Title: French 2
Date: 2023-2024
Teacher: Madame Browne
JAGS Pillar: Investigating the World
Assignment:
This artifact is the whole class in general, again, because, like before, not only was it full of so much, but it also didn't have a lot of projects to determine one artifact for it. This class impacted me on my JAGS journey in many different ways, but mainly was due to the fact that I was improving on learning this new language and was starting to comprehend more of the material we were learning. This class was full of memories and friends that I got to enjoy class time with, including senior Ethan Cox, whom I still talk to. Throughout the class, I learned a lot about French culture, the French education system, and more. I found out a lot of things I didn't know and how to say a lot of things besides that as well; it was a very good learning experience for me, even though I did not continue with the language for my Junior year.
The JAGS pillar of Investigating the World fits perfectly with this artifact above. Through learning about French culture in this class, I learned to Investigate the World around me, and saw how people in France live compared to how we live here in the U.S. I learned how similar and different French schools are, French cuisine, French holidays, French religious beliefs, and so much more. I found out a lot of things that I didn't know before about not only France, but also other French-speaking countries and regions. It was a great learning experience to continue to have as a Sophomore in JAGS. From taking French for a second year, I became a better Global citizen by continuing to understand French culture, religion, and cuisine. I also learned skills like the proper way to say hello and goodbye to people in France, depending on your current situation of when you are saying hi and bye to them. Because of taking this class, I was able to Investigate the World around me, regarding those who are French speakers.

Artifact Title: Mole Day Project
Date: October of 2023
Teacher: Miss Arter
JAGS Pillar: Communicating Ideas
Assignment:
This assignment was very impactful, mainly due to the amount of time it took to do. In Chemistry, for those who didn't know or don't remember, we had to do a mole day project, in which case we had multiple options to choose from, one of which was to make a mole day t-shirt. That seemed like the easiest one that I could do, so I went along and did that. It turned out nice, but it just took way too long to do, but it definitely is something I won't forget, and it will serve as a permanent reminder for Avogadro's number. This was a fun project, and something I would do again if I were bored and had the option of doing, but I would probably do the make your own mole plushy option.
As I worked on this project, I followed the third JAGS pillar of Communicating Ideas. The whole point of this project was to get the idea of Avogadro's number, which we learned in class, into our heads, as it is a very important number in Chemistry. We learned the number and its importance, but also learned that it was a necessary key thing that we would have to remember for the rest of the year, so it was best to have us learn it now, versus later. I did not work on this project on my own however, I had my mom help me with the design of the t-shirt. From this project, it made me a better Global citizen from learning about a different holiday that some people celebrate and learning about what comes with that holiday. I also learned useful skills like how to draw on a t-shirt and create your own specific design. As I worked together with my mom on the project, I communicated my ideas about the project to her, and got an A on the project with the design.
