My High School Career Through JAGS!

This quote from Walden perfectly summarizes what I think JAGS is all about--a group of smart, capable, and autonomous young people eager to change the world. We are the future, and to ensure a better world, we must be equipped with the necessary skills in order to accomplish that goal. Through our remarkable JAGS teachers, curriculum, and events, we are prepared to set out on this goal! JAGS is a unique experience reserved for the future of this world, not the past.
The Four Pillars of JAGS
Investigate the World One of the most important parts of life is finding yourself. An exemplary method to do this is to simply adventure. Go to places you´ve never been before, expereinces things outside of the ordinary. JAGS allowed me to branch out and do activities like this, which has further enriched my experiences as a teenager. Along with actually being in other places, the classes inserted me into those places in an interactive environment.
Recognize Perspectives A pivotal part of life is understanding another person, especially their way of life. JAGS has allowed me to do this, as I´ve learned from human trafficking victims, people from different countries, and so many perspectives. It makes you think of the Socrates line, ¨The only thing that I know is that I do not know.¨ And that is simply the truth. No perspective is for certain, and formulating a nuanced world view with shared perspectives is important to forming a globally-competent person.
Communicate Ideas The power of the pen and the voice. Great orators of old have understood this principle, and have used this power for charisma, persuasion, and leadership. In turn, it is only right that JAGS places a focus on communicating ideas. Throughout JAGS, I have performed a multitude of presentations at GO Night, speeches in class, and spoken to a panel of teachers. JAGS has allowed me to be confident in my speaking abilities, despite my stutter.
Take Action The ability to not back down to anything is a fact of life. To be a participant instead of a bystander. To be a trailblazer instead of conforming. JAGS creates a person full of confidence in their abilities to participate instead of back down. Whether it is from raising your hand in class to speak your mind, or to run for president, they all fall under take action. In the end, life is finite. Thus, it is pivotal that all people have the capacity to do the things that they love, and to be an effective leader. JAGS has given me many opportunities to take action, which I am very grateful for.
