Global Village "Heifer" Program:
Heifer was a great experience. The trip in it of itself was amazing. A truly eye-opening experience that I am grateful to JAGS for taking us on this trip. With my friends and some new ones, we learned how to be self-sufficient. We cooked our food, traded for resources, protected and took responsibility for our balloons (babies) to make sure they didn't pop. I would have to say one of the most memorable memories was when I realized I had to be assigned to arguably the hardest group in the Heifer simulation: The Refugee Camp. In the Refugee camp, you have to work for everything, and you don't have any starting resources, unlike other countries. Upon this, you cannot use your fire pit, which forces you to have to make deals with others or work for others to use their fire pit. And while it might have been the "hardest" or most difficult one, I still had fun.
Overall, Heifer is a great experience for anyone, especially at my age (15). I would highly recommend that more schools do this for their students in order for some students to develop more and get a greater understanding of the world around them.
