"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much."
About Me
My name is Jackson Baker. I was born and raised in Massillon, Ohio, and I've been attending Jackson Local Schools my entire life. I have three siblings, Amari (28), Jayden (22), and Mars (5). At Jackson, I am a varsity football player, varsity track & field runner, and a JAGS member. As for my career path, I wish to major in computer engineering in college. Both of my older siblings attended Jackson, and my younger brother is currently enrolled at Strausser Elementary (Jackson Local Schools).
Why I Joined
I joined JAGS because the idea of classes with a global focus interested me. I wanted to have a learning experience that focused on learning about things/places that I had not experienced before. This program was something I had wanted to join since my 7th-grade year, and I was confident that it was something I was willing to pursue. JAGS has been instrumental to my high school experience and has left me with so many new perspectives on cultures and ideas.
Investigate the World: Investigating the world. Even the process towards picking Descartes had involved researching the prominent people to came from France. As I researched Descartes, I learned more about France's involvement in philosophy and the importance of the French Revolution. Through researching Descartes, I developed a more nuanced view of French history,

Take Action: Taking initiative was a key aspect of my genius project, as it was important that I had attempted to challenge someone. I took action by initiating these competitions with people and by challenging myself to compete with my "opponents" and myself. Overcoming barriers such as sickness and injury made this project even more fulfilling.

Investigate the World: This project connects to the pillar of investigating the world. While this project does not have a global focus, it connects to investigating the world as we have to attempt to understand the reactions of the salt and heat. Chemistry is the building block of the world, and this lab was a (miniature) representation of how the world reacts with itself.
Recognize perspectives: This project connects to the JAGS pillar of recognizing perspectives. This documentary was created with the purpose of understanding the perspective of athletes. We attempted to find how motivation and passion clashed with the negatives of sports such as injuries or rules regarding identity use. The struggle for an athlete to have their own identity rather than feeling (or sometimes actually) being owned by a company like the NCAA.

Recognize perspectives: This project connects to the pillar of recognizing perspectives. While the main point of the project was connecting to developmental stages, most of the project consisted of keeping the sock baby safe. We were not allowed to have the baby inside our book bags, nor could we leave him with someone without documenting it in the project log. This led to an added difficulty in my daily routine as I had to organize where I’d leave my sock baby during practices. This helped me recognize the perspectives of parents/guardians. Having to constantly keep watch of the sock baby gave me even more of an appreciation for parents.
Communicate Ideas: The Egg project connects to the pillar of Communicate Ideas. To maximize our time and the size of our group, we needed to dedicate roles for this project. It was important that we managed to work both individually on some parts while properly communicating to make sure we’re not counteracting something another group member was working on.
Take Action: This connects to the pillar of take action. As the AP Pre-Calc exam approached, I felt I wasn’t properly prepared. I took action by finding resources to study from, including extra practice tests from AP classroom. These tests helped tremendously, as when test day came, I felt prepared and the exam felt significantly easier than the earlier tests in class.
