AP Lang
Gavin Schlachter - 10/15/24-12/18/24 - Podcast Project - Mr. Gillette - Communicating Ideas
In AP Lang, I created a podcast project on Forensic Psychology. I interviewed Professor Dennis Hilliard from the University of Rhode Island. Professor Hilliard is the head of the Rhode Island State Crime Lab. I spent a couple of months researching forensic psychology to create my podcast and learned a lot of new things. I got to share my information with my peers and my teacher, and shared Professor Hilliard's experiences.
This project is connected to the JAGS pillar, Communicating Ideas. I learned a lot of new information from Professor Hilliard and got to share all of that information with my class and teacher. It was amazing getting to interview with Professor Hillaird and being able to share my information with my peers.
Model UN
Gavin Schlachter - 11/25/24 - Case Western MUN - Miss Stone - Investigating the World and Communicating Ideas
At Case Western, I got to investigate different issues within the world. I played the role of Pakistan and worked in the peacekeeping committee. It was great getting to communicate with students from other schools and solving the issues the chamber threw at us. This was probably the best Model UN experience I had this year because I got to interact with people outside of our district.
This experience connects to the JAGS pillars, Communicating Ideas, and Investigating the World. I learned a lot of new information about United Nations peacekeeping efforts and what Pakistan puts towards the issue. I also got to communicate with people from other schools using the new information I learned.
Physics
Gavin Schlachter - 10/15/24-12/18/24 - Podcast Project - Mr. Robison - Take Action
I created this project in Physics with John and Zach. This was the most time-consuming project we worked on in physics and was one of the hardest. That being said, it was my favorite project we did in the class and allowed us to design and build a bridge of our own. The bridge ended up being one of our most successful projects in the class.
This project connects to the JAGS pillar, Taking Action. The project allowed us to build a bridge from scratch and add our own creative and fun twists to our design. From designing to building, we created our own small piece of infrastructure.
AP Psych
Gavin Schlachter - 9/23/24 - Braincap Project - Mrs. Morgan - Communicate Ideas
In Mrs. Morgan's AP Psychology class, I created a brain cap made out of a swim cap. We drew all the parts of the brain onto our brain cap with the intention of better preparing and helping us in our unit. The project was one of the most fun we did in psychology and greatly helped me memorize the information.
The brain cap project connects to the JAGS pillar, Communicating ideas. It allowed us to share our information with people around us, not just in our psychology class. I got to have a fun experience with my teachers as well and took a picture with each of them.
Europe
Gavin Schlachter - 3/20/25-3/29/25 - Europe - Investigating the world
This was my favorite trip I've been on with the JAGS program. We got to spend 10 days in Europe and were immersed in many different cultures. It was the best learning experience I've been a part of and taught me a lot about life outside the U.S.
This trip connects to the JAGS pillar, Investigating the world. We visited five different countries and went to countless historical sites during the 10 days we were there. I learned a lot of new information and I'm forever thankful that I was able to go on this trip.
