Mr. Taray, 2024 Q3, Investigate The World
Advanced Placement US History was possibly the most challenging class I took so far in my highschool career. It was my first Advanced Placement class I ever took, and the jump in curriculum was a learning experience for me. My map project on the early 1800s period in the United States was possibly my most memorable experience in my APUSH class. This project involved me and two other partners creating a map of the western USA, which included all the things we learned about the United States in the 1800s. This relates well to the JAGS pillar Investigate the World, as investigating the world around you also includes learning about your own country of origin. overall, throughout this project, and the class as a whole, I was challenged academically and grew significantly as a JAGS student, as APUSH instilled a sense of academic resolve into me during my time in the class. overall our project received third place out of all other APUSH periods.
Ms. Arter, 2024 Q4, Communicate Ideas
While Ms. Arter's class was one of the more challenging in my sophomore year, i had a great time working on the Mole day Project. In a class dominated by formulas and chemical rules, we took a break to "Celebrate" mole day. (one mol, pronounced "mole" is a unit of measurement in scientific notation for very small objects such as atoms) In order to better remember moles in class, we could choose between writing a paper, painting a ceiling tile, or another creative outlet or media. I chose to paint a ceiling tile for the class, in accordance with the "Sherlock Molms" theme.
This creative project in a otherwise difficult class for me taught me that sometimes the best way to Communicate Ideas, can be a creative way. through learning how to effectively communicate ideas through ways other than lengthy review papers, I was skilled enough to apply the same principles to my end of year JAGS capstone, which included a creative documentary on the lives of refugees. I was forever shaped by my experiences on "Mole Day" no matter how strange it seems in hindsight.
Ms. Muckley, 2023 Q2, Take Action
For my JAGS Global Opportunities Night project sophomore year, I worked with the help of Ms. Muckley to help Stahl's No Harm Farm with raising money and maintaining their barn. My partners and I worked together to rake leaves in lawns to save money for a Tractor Supply Giftcard for the Farm, which takes in Animals distended for slaughter and gives them a loving home. This Giftcard went to purchasing food and other supplies to feed the animals and keep them in good health on the farm.
We also worked around the barn floors and stalls when we went to donate the giftcard. My partners and myself worked hard to sweep stable floors, clean chicken coops, feed the animals, and clean up after long winter in the Barn. Overall, this Project helped me to realize as a JAGS student, that good causes can benefit from seemingly small acts of service, and taking action can greatly benefit othesr simply through determined effort.
Sr. Fradl, 2023 Q2, Investigate the world, Recognise Perspectives
Sr. Fradl was perhaps my favorite teacher from Sophomore year of Highschool. My most notable moment in his class was learning more about the Mexican holiday Cinco De Mayo. We did projects learning about this pivotal holiday in Mexican culture, including slideshows of common foods eaten during celebrations, along with learning traditional ways of Mexican dancing. Senor's class helped to inspire me to be more interested in Hispanic cultures and their traditions and to recognise their perspectives on history and tradition.
Working on projects related to Cinco De Mayo also encouraged me to investigate not only the greater world around me, but also Mexican and Hispanic influence around my community in Jackson. Because of Sr. Fradl's class and its contributions to my education, I feel more inspired to be a dedicated JAGS student and recognize and investigate the views and traditions of others around me. These skills are vital as it is easy to go without his skill in a relatively internationally isolated location like Stark County, Ohio, and thats what makes being a JAGS student ever so important.
Mr. Walsh, 2024 Q4, Investigate The World, Communicate Ideas
The JAGS Costa Rica trip was the most memorable event of my Sophomore year, and possibly even my whole time in Highschool. Costa Rica was a absolutely breathtaking country to visit and I had a great time traveling there with my fellow JAGS classmates. During our time in Costa Rica, we saw almost every corner of the country, from the capital to the countryside, and were lead by fantastic tour guides along the way. while I was there I physically got the Investigate The World, and see how other people in other nations lived their daily lives. I also was able to Communicate My Ideas during the trip, as I was able to physically use the knowledge learned during my Spanish classes when communicating with locals and shopkeepers.
