Especially considering 2020 and all of it's challenges, for 2021 I want to stay healthy and keep those around me safe. Even in spite of this past year, healthy living is harder to achieve than many think. According to the United Nations in 2017, less than half of the world's population were covered by essential health services and now after Covid-19, decades of progress regarding healthcare could be reversed with how hard some healthcare systems were hit. In this new year, staying healthy is my number one priority and I will be researching ways to help those who have been hit hardest by this pandemic. This resolution connects back to the United Nations' sustainable development goal #3 which embodies good health and well-being.
While I have been volunteering since the start of high school, I want to learn more about my own community through volunteering. In 2020, I started volunteering at the Stark County Hunger Task Force and I started to open my eyes to some of the issues within my own community. When you begin to focus on global issues, sometimes you forget that there are some local issues that have yet to be addressed. By volunteering at the Stark County Hunger Task Force, I not only became aware of the issues that occur in my own backyard but also became more motivated to help locally. This resolution could connect to a number of different goals depending on where I volunteer, but by volunteering at a food bank, I was able to embody the UN's SGD #2 of "No Hunger".
