Freshman Artifacts and Reflections

For my first Go Night research project we were instructed to choose two countries to represent in our project. These two countries were Lebanon and Yemen. These countries were perfect at the time considering they both had serious humanitarian issues going on. Since this was my first project in the Global Studies Academy, it was interesting to see how the research side of this project would go. I ended up learning a lot about myself and how I was able to collaborate in a group environment. This project was very eye opening and gave me my first glimpse into being internationally conscious.

For this day in class we were able to participate in an immersive reading to explain the events that occurred in World War I. We looked at all sides of the war and showed citizens impacts and impacts that the military made. The reading included direct quotes, examples, and stories from the war. Everyone was asked to play a part in the reading, and we all participated on different conflicting sides. This really showed everyone the finer details of the war and what really goes on behind all of the fighting. We learned the inner workings of the war and spent time in class representing different countries in the war.

For this project my group and I decided to research various foods that spanish speaking countries eat during christmas time. We had found that there are not many similarities between holiday food in the United States compared to Spanish speaking countries. This project truly gave me a new perspective and understanding of hispanic culture and tradition. It was interesting to learn about what goes into making a holiday special in different countries. I was exposed to new ingredients, recipes, and practices in different countries.

I was blessed with the opportunity to play and volunteer at a Nike Xcelerate Lacrosse program at Wooster College. Me and many other high school lacrosse players from around Ohio got to play in a 3 day overnight camp. In this camp we were volunteering to teach youth lacrosse players skills from each of our positions. This taught me a lot about leadership and team work. It is not easy to jump right into a postion like this as someone who has never taught another person how to play a sport. However, with the help of my friends and many coaches, the role became quite natural.

Biology Video Project

Jags Science

In this research project we were required to submit a project over the biomes of the world. My group chose to make a youtube video in the form of a minecraft world. We used the tundra biome and created our world. This project was difficult because it was worked on during Covid-19. This made it difficult to collaborate with everyone, and we had a hard time communicating. However, this was something we had to learn how to overcome. We ended up splitting up the project in 3 parts: ecosystem, animals, and fun facts. This project turned out very well and we fought through the diversity we were faced with.
