Sophomore Artifacts and Reflections

This documentary was based around our central idea of pollution. We then narrowed it down to pollution through the clothing industry. We used our research from both international and national sources to show how micro plastics cycle through our environment and end up getting closer to us than we think. Through this project I have learned how I am able to manage a large project with a group. There was a lot of time spent researching for our documentary. My group and I were able to gain a lot of information about pollution through the fashion industry in our own country as well as internationally. We were also required to interview a credible person outside of the school. This taught me how to communicate with people I have never met before.

In this project we were required to make an artifact box that successfully articulates historical events in a specific category. My partner and I chose sports. We used a shoe box to develop a boxing ring, tennis court, and a basketball court. During the research stage of the project we specifically focused on what was considered the golden age of boxing. The fight between Jack Dempsey and Gene Tunney was arguably the biggest and most influential fight the sport has ever seen. We were able to see how the different ethnic communities of these two boxes were very different. We were also able to research the start of women's tennis, where the sport first started to take off.

Nike Lacrosse Summer Team

Jags Extra Curricular

In the summer of 2021, I was fortunate enough to play for a Nike Lacrosse team called team Xcelerate. We played in tournaments throughout the country in states such as Ohio, Maryland, Indiana, and Delaware. This team was also made up of kids from many different schools in Ohio. This experience was great because I was able to meet so many new people. When you start on a new team with new people it may be hard to have good communication and collaboration skills, but eventually this will all come together in a positive way. This was able to show me what it is like to start a new job/project with people you have never met or worked with previously.

In this project we were instructed to decorate a ceiling tile with a mole. This has to do with our studies on molar units. We had been studying and applying molar units to chemistry for several weeks prior. The goal was to show what we had learned previously in the year and articulate it into an art project. I chose to paint my mole onto the earth with space in the background. Also, we were instructed to implement Avagadro’s number which is 6.022x10 to the 23 power. This number carried a lot of significance in our studies, and helped us solve the equations with molar units. Within this project I learned how to combine my studies with things such as art to show what I have learned.
