I am very proud of the fantastic students who attend our Academy – with just some examples this week.
Earlier in the year our Eco Club, with support from staff, created the wonderful Eco Garden on the academy site.
But they have not rested on their laurels.
They addressed local business leaders at a special event held in Grimsby Minster recently. They had been asked to talk about green issues and their presentation impressed the local business leaders.
Last Thursday, the Eco Club organised a ‘uniform swap shop’. Uniform Items were recycled rather than thrown away, in addition to the environmental impact, we hope it supports families at this difficult economic time.
A word of thanks to staff who supported the event, including taking home used uniform and washing it before it went to the swap shop. It was a wonderful, community-spirited event – well done the Eco Club.
This week, sell-out performances of our Christmas pantomime Cinderella, plus a matinee in front of Year 7, have been enjoyed by everybody.
It was great to see so many students performing, playing instruments, and involved behind the scenes with the stage, lighting and sound.
They learned about the importance of teamwork and collaboration and all the students involved deserve a tremendous ovation.
The students will be first to acknowledge it would not have happened without the Performing Arts team, so huge thanks to Mr Pudsey, Mrs Fordham, Mr Hall and all other colleagues who helped, including our team of music tutors.
Our last day is next Friday 16th December, closing at our normal time. It is non-uniform and there will be a Christmas disco.
Next Thursday, it is the academy Christmas dinner. Thank you to the kitchen staff for all their efforts ahead of this. We’re also having a Christmas/festive jumper day, with all proceeds to Save the Children.
End of term reward trips to the cinema to see either Matilda or Black Adam will take place next week for those students who have achieved 90% or higher attendance.
The importance of being at school cannot be understated. Students whose attendance is below 90% are classed as ‘persistent absentees’ by the Department for Education and statistics indicate these children achieve far less well than their counterparts.
The cold weather’s a prompt to purchase a Beacon Academy jumper. They are available from Uniform Direct for £15.
The Local Authority’s has informed us that well over 200 Year 6 children have selected Beacon Academy as their first choice for entry next September. With 150 places available this means Beacon will again be heavily oversubscribed for September 2023.
Thank you to parents / carers for all your support of the school over the past 12 months.
I wish everybody a happy and safe Christmas and look forward to welcoming all students back on Tuesday, 3rd January, in time for school opening at 8.25am, with tutor groups or assemblies starting at 8.30am prompt.
Thank you for reading – my next information Blog to parents will be on Friday 7th January 2023.
