There are many affordable options for getting an instrument for your student. At BDUSD, we recommend renting an instrument during the beginning years because the instruments are high quality, the rates are quite affordable, and repairs are free. Please do NOT purchase instruments off of "big box" online sites such as Amazon- they are cheaply made and frustrating for young students to play, and often break within months. Our local stores will not service most of these instruments.
At Instrument Tryout and Rental night, you can speak to a Ward Brodt or White House of Music representative about renting, and there are other stores in our area as well. Other options are detailed below. Please contact any of the music teachers with any questions you might have about this - we understand it can be overwhelming at first.

- String instruments come in many sizes; as students grow, they can trade up sizes for no extra cost

- Some instruments are provided by the school because they are large and too expensive to rent. This can be further explained at Instrument Tryout and Rental by the music teachers.

- Great! Please make sure it is in good working order before Summer Music Camp. Instruments that have sat for a while will probably need some maintenance.
- All area music stores will give free estimates to bring old instruments back into playing condition.
- Don't forget to get the accessories before the lessons start - simply contact either music store or go to their website for a list of accessories.
- Note - Music books are included in summer lessons; students do not need to purchase them
Note: if your student wants to be in band/orchestra but cost is an issue, please contact one of the band/orchestra teachers. We have a limited number of school instruments available in the instrumental program for families in need.
