Beaver Dam Middle School
Family Newsletter
Hello Families,
November is upon us. I want to thank you for all of your participation in our recent Parent-Teacher Conferences. The more we work together, the better we are. Our next formal opportunity will be December 2nd. We will have information in December's newsletter in advance of that date.
As we are coming to the close of the term, it is a good time to remind students to check for any missing assignments and get those turned in prior to November 1st. If you have questions, please reach out to your student's teacher. We want all of our student to be successful, and getting off to a strong start in the first term helps with motivation further down the line.
In Service,
Rob Meyer
BDMS Principal; BDUSD Director of Teaching & Learning

After School Academic Support (ASAS) runs in our library after school (3:00-4:00 PM) on most Mondays and Thursdays. Students can come to have a quiet place to study or receive extra support from staff who participate in this opportunity. We generally have two to three staff members available. Students wishing to attend must report directly to the library after school and remain there until 4:00. Please know that students/families must arrange for transportation as students will be escorted to our main entrance (Door S1) at 4:00 and dismissed. We do not have bussing available. All of our expectations for students during the school day are also enforced at ASAS. This is a great way for students to complete studies and homework before going home.
November dates: 7th, 11th, 14th, 18th and 21st.
(No ASAS on Nov 25th)
All three BDMS bands will have concerts on Monday, November 25 in the BDMS auditorium. The students have been working hard to prepare a variety of band pieces and are excited to perform for their families and the community! Families are invited to come to one, two, or all three concerts. Concert times are as follows:
6th Grade Band - 6:15 PM
7th Grade Band - 7:00 PM
8th Grade Band - 7:30 PM
Band students should arrive to the band room 15 minutes before their concert time, dressed in concert black.
November 27th is a "Digital Distance Learning Day." This means that students will be assigned their coursework to complete via Canvas, our online Learning Management System. This is a tool our students use on a daily basis. Instructors will review the plan with students ahead of time. In addition, each educator will have virtual office hours in the morning that students can log-on to if they have questions. Students do not attend school in person. This offers a digital learning experience for our students while keeping us prepared for any evetn that may prompt virtual leanring such as a stretch of inclement weather. This also provides families flexibility leading up to the holiday as the learning is required to be completed by the return from the weekend.
If your BDMS student would like to learn more about FFA, we are hosting an opportunity on October 30th (Wednesday). Our High School FFA Advisor and a crew of students will lead this informatonal session. This will take place at 7:15 AM in our Auditorium. Students riding the bus can notify supervisors they wish to attend and they will be let in at 7:10 AM. Students who bike, walk, or are dropped off should enter through our main office.
The District will be holding its annual Districtwide Food Drive 2024 from November 18-22. Please watch for upcoming announcements and District social media for specifics about the middle school food drive competition details.
Please see the Parents Make a Difference Monthly Bulletin (Spanish) from The Parent Institute. This is a newsletter style document we share monthly. It includes short articles that support a family-school connection.
Please see this flyer for information and registration details for a workshop titled "Strengthening Family Bonds Through Traditions." This takes place on November 14th from 6:00-7:00 PM at Jefferson Elementary School. This is provided by UW Extension and BDUSD.
During the month of November, Jerry's Automotive Center will be donating a portion of proceeds from the "Spirit Pump" to Beaver Dam Middle School. We want to thank them for their support of BDMS. If you have the opportunity to support, we appreciate it. Funds will go toward opportunities for our students.
If you are interested in learning more about Virtual Nursing Appointments for students at BDMS (via TytoCare), please see this informational document. In order for students to access this service, guardians must complete consent forms. The QR code and link for this is on the flyer.
Students have been made aware of a writing contest (Golden Words). We are providing that information to you as families should you want to encourage students to participate. You can find the information here. Entries are due November 26th. This is a great opportunity for students to showcase their skills!
