Family Newsletter
Contents Quick Links:
Thank you to all the families that attended our Open House event. Our turnout was fantastic. If you were not able to attend, please know that we will work diligently to support and orient all of our students as we start school on August 27th. The first week will focus on establishing a safe and productive learning environment as we cover expectations and routines that support high-levels of learning.
If you are in need of particular student support over the course of the year, please know that we have a "point" person for each grade level. We strive to be present and supportive across the school day in order to support a productive learning environment, so please allow some grace time for us to respond to any of your communications. It is usually best to schedule an appointment.
Grade 6: Associate Principal Abby Schmitt (Extension 3002)
Grade 7: Dean of Students Jami Dugan (Extension 3003)

Our doors open at 7:20 AM. Students should be in classes ready to learn at 7:40 AM. Our dismissal time is 3:00 PM
Entry to the School
I walk to school: Please enter door door S3 located on 4th Street.
I ride my bike to school: Please park your bike in the bike rack on West Mackie Street, making sure to lock it up. Bikes at other locations around the school will be moved. Enter door N2.
I get dropped off in a vehicle: Please make sure to safely use the drop off lane on 4th street, pulling as far up the street as possible. Enter door S3.
I ride a bus: Students will remain outside until 7:20 AM (sometimes our busses arrive before this) and will then enter door N2.
Where do I go on the first day?
Our 7th and 8th grade students will be reporting directly to their first hour class. Our 6th grade students will go to our gymnasium known as "the pond." They will be escorted by their teachers from that location. Schedules and locker information is available in Skyward if you do not have that from Open House. We will certainly support any student Tuesday morning that may not have this information.
6th Grade students will experience a "camp" for the first several days as they acclimate to our school. They will then, after receiving this support, transition to their normal schedule during our second week of school. 7th and 8th Grade students will follow a normal schedule. However, information on our expectations and routines will be embedded in their day.
We will be spending time over the first several days of school making sure our students understand our expectations and routines. Please review the following to support our success!
1. Hats and Hoods:
Policy: Hats are not allowed in school unless approved by administration. Hoods must be lowered throughout the school day.
Expectations: Students should remove hats and store them in their lockers. Hoods must be down from 7:40 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., including during lunch.
Enforcement: Teachers will remind students to comply and manage dress code violations through referrals if necessary. Repeated violations may result in loss of privileges and further disciplinary actions.
2. Cell Phones:
Policy: Cell phones and personal devices must be turned off and kept in lockers from 7:35 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Expectations: This rule applies in all areas of the school, including classrooms and bathrooms.
3. Dress Code:
Purpose: Our dress code aims to prepare students for future professional and academic environments while maintaining a welcoming and safe school climate.
Guidelines:
Clothing or accessories with inappropriate or offensive content are not permitted.
Clothing must cover the chest, stomach, genitals, and buttocks, and undergarments should not be visible.
Students must wear shoes at all times; sunglasses, hats, hoods (unless medically documented), costume masks, and blankets are not allowed.
Clothing guidelines for special occasions will be communicated by the administration.
Religious attire is allowed if related to a student’s sincerely-held beliefs.
Compliance: Students not meeting dress code expectations may be asked to change, contact home, or use school-provided clothing.
Dear Parents,
As educators at the Beaver Dam Unified School District, our challenge is to find effective ways to meet the needs of all our students. Research studies indicate that family involvement has a direct and positive affect on student achievement.
Our school receives federal Title I funds for the purpose of assisting students in meeting federal and state language arts and mathematics standards. Realizing the importance of parental involvement, federal guidelines require schools to develop a Student/Family/School Agreement as a component of the school policy.
Please read and review this agreement (LINK) as a pledge to promise to work together to ensure the success of your child. We look forward to working with you and your child to make this a successful school year. Thank you for your time and support as we work together in educating your child.
Families will be receiving a link to our September newsletter on August 29th that will provide September events.
