What is AP Capstone?
AP Capstone™ is a diploma program from the College Board. It’s based on two yearlong AP courses: AP Seminar and AP Research. Rather than teaching subject-specific content, these courses develop students’ skills in research, analysis, evidence-based arguments, collaboration, writing, and presenting. Students who complete the two-year program can earn one of two different AP Capstone awards, which are valued by colleges across the United States and around the world.

Students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research and on four additional AP Exams of their choosing receive the AP Capstone Diploma™. Students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research but not on four additional AP Exams receive the AP Seminar and Research Certificate™.

In 2020, ABC Action news chose the AP Capstone program at Brooks DeBartolo out of every high school in Tampa to participate in their National News Literacy Project and have their research aired nationally.
In 2020, ABC Action news chose the AP Capstone program at Brooks DeBartolo out of every high school in Tampa to participate in their National News Literacy Project and have their research aired nationally.
Scripps TV stations (ABC’s parent company) around the country, as well as Scripps’ National Media brands, premiered stories produced in collaboration with local schools around the nation on a topic of importance to their communities. The nationwide premiere of the stories kicked off National News Literacy Week 2020, presented by the News Literacy Project and The E.W. Scripps Company.

1. Co-produce a story with ABC journalists on their topic: How does extensive exposure to social media in high school affect the development of students’ self-perceptions?
