Ciaira Soltys

Cosmetology, 2018

"Going to BCTHS is the best decision I ever could have made. In middle school, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I knew I wanted to go to college because that’s what you do after high school, right? I was going to go to my home school because and go to college and figure out what for when I got there. Then I took the class trip to check out the tech school and immediately fell in love with cosmetology. I started working in the field during high school as an assistant at a now closed salon with incredible stylists, and moved to Studio One Hair Salon in senior year. I started there as an assistant and receptionist and eventually became a stylist. I learned so much from these two places and their incredible stylists. The biggest thing I’ve learned since working in the industry is to always be open to watching and learning and growing. I’m now working at Allan&Allen Hair Co. in Bristol and it is by far the best place I’ve ever worked. I’ve never felt so valued, trusted, or appreciated in a work place before and I’m the most confident I’ve ever been in my work now because of it. Love what you do and love where you do it. Thanks to BCTHS for starting my journey and teaching me so many valuable lessons."

Applied Engineering Technology, 2003

"BCTHS is directly responsible for the work, career and life I have today. The knowledge, skill and maturity gained there got me started on my career, and this month I celebrate 20 years at Best Buy and The Geek Squad!! I am a senior manager, responsible for all in-home customer activities for Geek Squad for the entire Philadelphia market. I always said I wanted to lead and manage technical people and today I do just that with almost 200 employees in my reporting structure over 5 different businesses."

Bryan Melilli

Mechatronics Engineering, 2012

"I graduated from BCTHS and the Mechatronics Engineering Program in 2012. Later that year, I began pursuing my degree in Biomedical Engineering at Drexel University. Over the next 5 years, I took many high level engineering courses, but the foundation that BCTHS had given me through both my academic and technical classes allowed me to excel throughout my time in college. I remember many of my classmates finding our first class on circuits to be very challenging, but it was almost entirely a review for me thanks to my experiences in my tech shop. In 2017, I graduated from Drexel University with both my Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Biomedical Engineering with a 3.95 GPA, which would not have been possible without the excellent teachers I had at BCTHS preparing me for the courses I would be taking. Since then, I have gone on to become a Senior Product Development Engineer with a medical device company called Terumo Cardiovascular, where I help design new surgical tools for heart surgery."

Allied Health, 2015

"I am a 2015 graduate from allied health at BCTHS. After Allied Health I got a job at St. Mary Medical Center as a Nursing Assistant and since have advanced my career and am now a Registered Nurse at SMMC in Labor and Delivery! I went to Holy Family University after BCTHS for my Bachelors degree in nursing. Tech has helped me tremendously in my career!"

Kristine Alfes

Culinary Arts

"I perused Culinary Arts in high school, and since graduation I have worked for the Phillies and Eagles catering for members and players. I have also worked at the Union League of Philadelphia, the #1 city club in the US; as well as been a part of staff for many restaurants in the Philadelphia area, and a private chef for clients in Philadelphia and Manhattan. I am now the Culinary Arts Fellow (an TA) at Walnut Hill College."

Robert March

Diesel, 2019

"BCTHS was the biggest stepping stone in my career. If not for BCTHS I would have never even thought about becoming a Diesel Technician. With a large majority of credit due to Mr. McCrane, and another large portion to my other teachers, I’ve accomplished a lot for someone my age. Since getting the opportunity to compete in Skills USA while in my senior year, I gained a large head start on my fellow technicians. Studying at BCTHS prepared me for acquiring my ASE Certifications, State Inspection License and many other certifications to allow me to stand out from the “competition” of employment. Since graduating I’ve been gaining years of experience in my field all supported by my foundation created at BCTHS."
