All lessons are based off the NC Extended content standards.
Unique Learning System is the current curriculum we use. It provides adapted lessons and differentiates lessons in order to meet each students unique individual needs. Unique learning system provides lessons in the following subjects:
Math
Reading
Daily Living
Communication
Science
Social Studies
Students will participate in a adapted PE class with students in the general education population.
Students will participate in community based instruction trips, also known as field trips, throughout the school year to develop skills needed when in the community.
Students will participate in class/school jobs.
Students will work on IEP skills daily.
All lessons will be created specifically for each student in order for them to succeed.
Syllabus
“Life Skills” is a class for students with complexities in which we support students in preparation for life after high school. These students are taught using the NC Extended Content Standards and are taught using Specially Designed Instruction to meet the student’s needs. Students will focus on growing in the academic skills of math and reading, developing their functional and daily living skills, engaging in vocational training and Community Based Instruction, engaging in social and emotional learning, and becoming independent, self-determined individuals. In “Life Skills,” students also receive support in progressing in their IEP Goals. The students will learn in small groups and one-to-one instruction to best facilitate learning.

Life Skills is a graded program based on participation and academic successes. Grades will be based on the following:
Participation: Students will participate in academic and executive functioning skills as assigned
Academically Engaged: This includes completing assignments, working on academic and functional tasks, and participating during learning activities.
IEP Goals: Students will spend time at school and home working toward their IEP goals.
Conduct: Students will follow classroom rules and school rules of conduct as detailed in the Student Handbook.

By creating a positive learning environment, students will develop the skills necessary to be as independent as possible in order to be successful in the classroom and in life.
Students will always be under adult supervision but students will get the opportunity to complete daily activities and tasks as independent as possible.
Students will be respectful and kind to all teachers and classmates.
Students will follow a consistent routine, they will follow a schedule and refer to it throughout the day.
Students will be provided with individual accommodations, that are stated in their IEP, in order to be successful throughout the day.
