Hello and welcome to my class!
We are going to explore a variety of themes and literary genres in class and I look forward to hearing and discussing your perspectives alongside teaching you the skills and information you need to succeed in whatever you may choose to do in the future.
Class with me is generally very interactive and can be challenging but I will be there to help you every step of the way. I also have an expectation that you give your 100% effort at every available opportunity. Your level of effort directly benefits you, so love yourself and work hard for yourself!
RULES and POLICIES:
AI and Plagiarism
AI
AI is useful to generate ideas but not to write assignments or to re-write assignments. The use of AI to write anything in my class is strictly prohibited and will result in a grade of 0 or 50 (depending on the severity) and could potentially result in a formal write-up.
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the act of taking someone or something else's work and claiming it as your own without giving credit to the original creator. Using AI to generate text for you is plagiarism and is strictly prohibited in my class. Plagiarizing anything in my class will result in a grade of 0 or 50 (depending on the severity) and could potentially result in a formal write-up.
Late Work Policy
All assignments should be submitted by the due date except in cases where an absence has occurred.
In the case of an unexcused absence, students are not eligible to make up missed work for credit. However, a teacher may make an exception, per their discretion. Additionally, a waiver allowing credit for missed work may be granted by the principal or designee upon written request by the parent or guardian, student, or faculty within five school days of the student’s return to school.
Credit for missed work due to unexcused absences will be considered only after all previously incomplete work has been submitted.
Students are strongly encouraged to complete missed assignments promptly to support their academic progress, maintain instructional continuity, and demonstrate mastery of content.
About Me
Hello!
I am very excited to be teaching English IV and Honors English IV at South Brunswick high school this year. I hold a Master's degree in English from Arizona State University. My professional background includes positions as a newspaper journalist, web designer and content writer, and several advanced leadership positions.
I spent my childhood in Germany, moving to Kentucky in my early teens, and then to Brunswick county in 2010. All three of my children have graduated from a Brunswick county school.
When I'm not at school, I enjoy making wonderful memories with my husband and children, spending time with my cats and dogs, and relaxing at the beach while reading a book.
