Welcome to 8th Grade Social Studies! This course is designed to fulfill the goals and objectives set forth in the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. The Essential Standards for 8th grade are organized around five strands: history, geography and environmental literacy, economics and financial literacy, civics and governance, and culture. We will thoroughly cover each of these topics in relation to North Carolina and the United States. Our focus this school year will be learning and developing our skills as critical thinkers, problem solvers, and objective historians.
Classroom expectations:
Arrive to class on time
Be prepared for class (be ready to learn, do not keep others from learning, bring supplies that you need)
Keep phones and electronics put away
Keep your work space tidy and clean up after yourself (throw your trash away, take all your things with you)
Please be respectful of yourself and others
Stay on task and be ready to participate
Try your best
Dojo:
This year school wide we will be using Dojo to communicate! However, you can always email me send a note or call the school if you have any questions or concerns.
Google Classroom:
Most, if not all, assignments will be posted on Google Classroom. Instructions and due dates for all assignments will be outlines clearly on all post. If you have any questions or concerns about due dates or instructions again, please reach out to me! Please make sure that you complete all assignments on time and to the best of your ability.
Communication:
As we go through this school year please keep in mind that communication is very important. I will be keeping in touch with parents and checking in with students regularly. I encourage reaching out about assignments, behaviors or anything else that may help our students succeed this year! Please do not hesitate.
