The ML program provides English language instruction for students (pull-out, inclusion, or consultative). Students are tested annually as mandated by Federal Law. It is important that ML students receive the same academic opportunities as students who are proficient in English.
Students of Limited English Proficiency have modified instruction and assessments geared to meet their needs. Brunswick County is committed to the success of all students.
As of 2008-09 school year the WIDA ACCESS Placement Test, also referenced as the WIDA SCREENER, is administered to all initially enrolled language minority students. This test functions as a screener that is used for the initial assessment and English as a Second Language (ESL) program placement of students who are identified as limited English proficient (LEP). The annual test, ACCESS for ELLs (Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State for English Language Learners), is designed to satisfy Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requirements for Title III.
