While growing up in Northern California, my passion for the natural world was cultivated by exploring my backyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
After attending universities in California and Chicago, I landed in Wilmington, NC to complete my B.S. in Environmental Science at UNC Wilmington. After working in environmental outdoor education, I decided to pursue traditional teaching and obtained my M.A.T in Secondary Science Education.
My teaching philosophy is experiential and inquiry-based. I believe the education system should be teaching practical skills that students will be able to use for life after high school. For this reason, I incorporate real-world laboratory methods to develop communication, project management, and critical thinking skills. At this point in education, I believe students should be taking initiative and control of their learning and I will be here to explain complex concepts and guide them along the way.Â
