I send a brief newsletter each week about what we’re doing in class so you can ask your child specific questions and help remind them of upcoming deadlines. If you are not receiving this and would like to, send me an email (dcopeland@bcswan.net)
Try your best to stay on top of your work throughout the semester. A good habit is to check Infinite Campus at least once a week—this will help you catch any missing assignments or ones you’d like to revise and resubmit.
If you're out for any reason, just let me know—I'm here to help. And if you ever fall behind, no worries! We can work together to make a plan and get you back on track.
I truly believe that every student can succeed in my class—even when things get tough. After all, if learning were easy, we wouldn’t need schools!
That said, grit and confidence don’t appear overnight. It takes time for students to grow into strong problem-solvers, and failure is often part of the journey to success. When your child faces setbacks, encourage them to keep going and to reach out to me when they need support.
It might be tempting to step in and make contact for them, but one of the most valuable skills they can build is learning how to advocate for themselves—especially when it comes to asking questions or checking in about their grade.
With persistence and support, your child can master anything they put their mind to.
I’m always happy to help you one-on-one—there’s always time for that! But I won’t know you need help unless you let me know. Don’t hesitate to speak up.
Flex block is a great time to get extra support, so feel free to sign up whenever you need a hand.
I’ll be providing plenty of support along the way, but ultimately, your child is responsible for their own progress. You can play a big role by checking in with them regularly. A good practice is checking Infinite Campus at least once a week and asking your child about their grades. Try asking questions like:
How’s class going?
Are you staying on track or working on catching up?
Have you mastered this week’s vocabulary terms?
These simple check-ins not only help you stay in the loop—they also encourage your child to take ownership of their learning. So don’t hesitate to ask!
