Science

There are 8 strands/units in 6th grade Science. This is the overview of all standards taught:

1. PS.6.1 Understand the structure, states, and physical properties of matter.

2. PS.6.2 Understand characteristics of thermal and electrical energy transfer and

interactions of matter and energy.

3. PS.6.3 Understand the properties of waves and the wavelike property of energy in seismic, electromagnetic (including visible light), and sound waves.

4. LS.6.1 Understand the structures, processes, and behaviors of plants that

enable them to survive and reproduce.

5. LS.6.2 Understand the flow of energy through ecosystems and the responses of populations to the biotic and abiotic factors in their environment.

6. ESS.6.1 Understand the earth/moon/sun system, and the properties, structures and predictable motions of celestial bodies in the Universe.

7. ESS.6.2 Understand the lithosphere and how interactions of constructive and destructive forces have resulted in changes in the surface of the earth over time.

8. ESS.6.3 Understand the reciprocal relationship between the lithosphere and humans.

Social Studies

We have 5 Units in 6th grade social studies.  They are as follows:

1. 6.B.1 Understand ways in which culture influences civilizations. 

2. 6.C&G.1 Understand the purpose of government and authority. 

3. 6.E.1 Understand the economic activities of civilizations prior to 1400. 

4. 6.G.1 Understand the geographical factors that influence human migration and settlement. 

5. 6.H.1 Understand the development of civilizations and societies from various perspectives.
