"Our mission is to inspire students to choose abstinence, providing clear, supportive education on health, and fostering open communication with parents."
About Our Curriculum
Our curriculum is designed to guide students through the complexities of personal health, mental wellness, and interpersonal relationships. Focused on Grades 7, 8, and 9, it provides age-appropriate, evidence-based knowledge and skills to navigate these crucial years with confidence and respect for themselves and others.
Local Adaptations for Reproductive Health Education
To enhance transparency and comfort in our reproductive health education, Brunswick County Schools has implemented the following measures:
a. Curriculum Accessibility and Opt-Out Process
Our approved curriculum is available on the district website for both parent and student review. An opt-out process is provided for those who choose not to participate.
b. Gender-Separated Instruction
All reproductive health lessons involving sex or gender-specific content are taught in gender-separated classes. This approach ensures comfort, privacy, and effective learning for all students.
These adaptations reflect our commitment to fostering a supportive and respectful educational environment.
Understanding Your Rights
In accordance with the 2022 North Carolina General Statutes, Chapter 115C - Elementary and Secondary Education, Article 8 - General Education, § 115C-81.30, our school's reproductive health and safety education curriculum is designed to provide comprehensive, factual, and age-appropriate information on a variety of topics, including sexually transmitted diseases, FDA-approved contraceptive methods, sexual assault and abuse awareness, and sex trafficking prevention.
