Course Description & Objectives
This course will introduce and implement art students to the fundamental techniques, processes and materials used to make two and three-dimensional art. Students will study and understand the elements of art and principles of design. The students will build a foundation in drawing while exploring and practicing with various media and techniques. Students will learn to manage class time while gaining technical proficiency through practice. Students will learn a comprehensive visual vocabulary and demonstrate this in class discussions and self-evaluations. Students will engage in class critiques of their work as well as art historical works. The students will begin to participate in meaningful dialogues about art.
Student Assessment Student’s final grades will be assessed as follows:
This year, my goal is to offer modified art project choices that allow students to explore artistic mediums and techniques aligned with their individual abilities. Art lessons will be delivered through teacher-created videos, enabling students to start lessons and progress through each step at their own pace.
Each quarter, students will complete seven art projects, each inspired by a different artist. Projects will be submitted both online and in physical format.
Additionally, students will use teacher-made sketchbooks at the beginning of class. As part of their daily routine, they will complete a five-minute zentangle “do now”, which is guided by step-by-step visual instructions.
Zentangles encourage relaxation, stress relief, mindfulness, focus, creativity, and self-confidence. They offer a calming and constructive outlet that students can use when feeling overstimulated or in need of social-emotional support.

Participation in class discussion and critiques is essential. It is very important that an artist can have a meaningful dialogue about their own work and the artwork of others.
Presentation counts. Students must demonstrate proper care for their work.
Sketchbooks are necessary for passing this course. Your sketchbook will be checked four times throughout the semester.
Come to class prepared. Please bring your pencil.
You are expected to bring the necessary materials!
Wear clothes that you can get messy or bring an oversized shirt to wear while you are in art.
Handle all supplies and materials with respect. All students are responsible for setting up and cleaning up materials and tools every day. Waste and misuse are unacceptable.
Keeping our classroom clean and organized will factor into your grade.
Respect others and their artwork. Everyone will be considerate of each other’s opinions, space and artwork.
Projects must be turned in on time. Turning in work late will affect your grade
