BMS Band
  • Each year, our 8th grade students have the opportunity to participate in an exciting event called "SOLO & ENSEMBLE" located at Buckeye High School.

  • Students can choose to play a solo (by themselves) or an ensemble (a small group of students).

  • Typically in October, your band directors will start having these conversations with students about whether they'd like to participate - then they'll decide if they'd like to do a solo, an ensemble, or both!

  • Throughout October, November, December, and January, your band directors will help your child select the music they'd like to play at solo & ensemble.  Your child will then practice this music up until the date of their performance(s)!

      • Students (both soloists & ensembles) typically practice together during I/E time and/or during class when possible!

  • In February, solo & ensemble is held at Buckeye High School (3084 Columbia Road, Medina, OH 44256)

  • Students will play in front of their families, friends, and one judge who will provide comments and an overall rating.  I (one) is the highest rating and V (five) is the lowest rating.

  • After students perform, stick around to see them post your overall rating on the rating sheets in the cafeteria!  A light concession stand is available as well while you wait!  Once you view your rating, you are welcome to stick around to watch other friends' performances OR you can head out immediately after you view your rating!

This is an experience that students can tangibly see their hard work paying off!
We hope you'll consider supporting your child in this great opportunity!
