Small moments at home this summer can make a big difference in helping your child feel confident, capable, and ready for a wonderful PK2 year!
Practice separating for short periods of time with trusted family or friends.
Encourage your child to use simple words to express feelings: “I’m sad,” “I need help,” or “I’m frustrated.”
Take turns during games and playtime.
Practice cleaning up toys before moving to a new activity.
Read books about starting school and talk positively about teachers and friends.
Encourage independence with simple tasks like putting on shoes, washing hands, and throwing away trash.
Help your child follow simple routines like snack time, bedtime, and getting dressed.
Model kind words like “please,” “thank you,” and “my turn.”
Read aloud every day, even for just 10 minutes.
Ask simple questions during stories: “What do you see?” “Where is the dog?”
Sing nursery rhymes and familiar songs together.
Practice following 1–2 step directions:
“Get your shoes and bring them to me.”
“Put the book away and sit on the couch.”
Talk often during everyday activities like grocery shopping, cooking, or driving.
Jump with two feet together.
Walk on tiptoes or along a sidewalk line.
Throw and roll balls outside.
Dance to music and freeze when the music stops.
Climb playground equipment with supervision.
Practice walking up and down stairs using alternating feet.
Color with crayons and chunky markers.
Play with playdough by rolling, squeezing, and pinching.
String large beads onto yarn or pipe cleaners.
Tear paper for simple art projects.
Practice snipping paper with child-safe scissors.
Build towers with blocks.
Complete simple puzzles together.
Count toys, snacks, or steps together.
Practice naming colors and shapes during everyday routines.
Sort objects by color or size.
Point out body parts during bath time or songs.
Encourage pretend play with dolls, kitchens, baby care, or dress-up.
Pray together at bedtime and meals and anytime! "Pray without ceasing!"

Remind your child often: “Jesus loves you!”
Practice simple Bible verses together as a family.
Keep a consistent bedtime and morning routine before school starts.
Visit playgrounds or group activities to practice social interaction.
Label everything - cups, lunchboxes, and comfort items early to build familiarity.
Speak positively and confidently about school.
Remember that growth at this age happens through play, repetition, and loving encouragement — not pressure.
