General Music  .  Percussion Ensemble  .  Cardinal Chorus

Hi!  My name is Taylor Sanders.  I'm from Anaheim, California.  I moved around various cities in California until I moved to a small town in Pennsylvania called Mars (yes, that was really the town's name).  That's where my passion for music took root.  I attended Adams Elementary and Mars Middle, both public schools that were incredibly supportive of the arts.  As a fifth grader, I was able to join the band program as a clarinetist.  Outside of school, I took private piano lessons and my knowledge of music grew exponentially.  After participating in chorus, orchestra, and band throughout middle school, I was invited to join the nationally-competitive high school marching band, The Mars Big Band, as an eighth grader.  My music teachers were the reason that I'm a music teacher today.

I moved to Winston-Salem, NC in 2003 and was heavily involved in the music programs at West Forsyth and Mount Tabor High School.  Because of my various music teachers, I was afforded many opportunities to perform with wind ensembles, jazz bands, pit orchestras, percussion ensembles, marching bands, and numerous honor bands throughout my high school career.

I graduated from Western Carolina University in 2012 with a degree in K-12 Music Education and I've been a teacher in WNC ever since.   I began my career as Director of Bands at East Henderson High School and in 2016, I found my passion for teaching young students when I moved down the street to Hillandale Elementary School.  I'm so excited to be working closer to home as a Fairview Cardinal!  In addition to teaching music at Fairview, I also work with the AC Reynolds High School Marching Band, Drumline, and Front Ensemble.

In my spare time, I am an avid speed stacker.  I love live music, camping, and traveling whenever I can (along with spending time with my husband Will as well as our two cats, Tiger and Bear)

In the music room, all students will:

"Sing, move, and play, in a tuneful, beatful, artful way."

Tuneful : To sing in-tune

Beatful : To perform music to the beat of a song

Artful : To experience and create art

My goal is that by the time our Cardinals leave Fairview, they will be encouraged to continue their exploration of music in middle school with band, orchestra, or chorus. and beyond.  I hope that they will grow up to have the skills to effortlessly clap along to the beat at a concert, sing confidently in the car with their friends to their favorite song, and enjoy music in all aspects of their life, realizing the impact that it has on them socially and emotionally.

My mission statement is derived from Dr. John Feierabend's teaching methods, which have revolutionized the way that many educators teach elementary music worldwide.
