This year, we're doing an orff ensemble, focusing on making music totally by ourselves without backing tracks or other effects. I was inspired to take on something new by an incredible elementary music teacher in Texas!! We're also looking for students who take private drumset lessons and even piano who might be interested in playing drumset/piano on one of these pieces as well!! (These parts will be auditioned)
Songs that we'll be working on include:
Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day
Happier by Marshmello
Levitating by Dua Lipa
Sunroof by Nicky Youre & Dazy
Clocks by Coldplay
(we won't be singing any lyrics to these songs and the song list subject to change depending on ensemble needs)
Since we have 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders playing all together, I wanted to pick a name that was inclusive to all of our students, regardless of grade level . . . so I stuck with Cardinals. A percussion instrument is defined as an instrument that makes its sound by being struck, scraped, or shaken - the concept of objects colliding to create music! And so Cardinal Collision became our ensemble name.
That's what we're doing; colliding in-sync and in-time with music with musicians across the grade levels.
Pretty cool, right?
