I have been teaching at Owen Middle since Fall of 2010. I started at OMS as a math teacher, and 5 years ago I moved over to science. I received my teacher licensure from UNC-Asheville. Before that I was the property manager for an independent peanut farm in South Georgia. My undergraduate degree is in nursing from Valdosta State University.
I use several different modalities when teaching science. These may include lectures, laboratory experience, and collaborative projects. I am, however, an “Old School” teacher by nature. There will be homework. There will be exams. There will be notes to take.
The learning management system (LMS) I use is Canvas. It can be accessed from NCEdCloud and does not require a “join code.” Parents can “observe” their kids Canvas account. If you are interested, please contact me.
If you are wanting to get a head start on supplies for 2024-2025, you can access the science list here. I have included an Amazon list. I hate Wal-Mart too!
8th grade is the first-year students will have “real” science labs with “real” chemicals. For that reason, Safety is taken ultra seriously. A student Lab Contract is required from all students before they are allowed to do a lab. A copy of this contract is here.
