Our beautiful castle theme and mural were the collaborative work of many students, Ms. Marti Svboda, retired art teacher, Dr. Sidelnick and students from UNCA. We thank them for our kingdom!
Is the library a place or a service? It's Both!
Our missions: To foster the love of reading for pleasure and curiosity by being a place full of exciting and interesting books for students to read and relax. AND to support students and teachers by teaching skills for locating and using information in print and digital forms.
Information Literacy: This is the ability to find and use information. It is the keystone for lifelong learning and is the heart of the school library program. The school library has expanded beyond the stacks of books, to become an active, technology -rich classroom. The library program focuses on the process of seeking answers to questions.
Book circulation: Students have scheduled visits to the media center for instruction and book circulation. Upper grade students may visit as time and teacher permit for independent check out. Students 2nd grade and older are taught to use the catalog and call numbers to locate their desired books. Our school holds approximately 10,000 books for students and our readers make the most of it by circulating an average of 700 books a week!
Research: In addition, the media specialist is available to collaborate on classroom research projects and enrichment through digital projects.
Technology: Students are taught the care and use of their assigned 1:1 devices as well as school policies on tech etiquette and being safe online. The media center is also the first point of service for all tech issues for both students and staff which accounts for over 700 iPads and laptops. Buncombe County Student Device User Guides can be found in here
Destiny Discover: Students can access the library catalog through their NCedCloud account.
E-books: Students can use Sora to access the Buncombe County School's digital collection AND the NC Kids Digital Library. Sora can be found in their NCedCloud account/Clever.
Electronic resources: NC Student Resources found on the NCedCloud is the go to source for all kinds of North Carolina topics. Also on the NCedCloud are access links to Britannica and EBSCO.
