I'm please to be the media coordinator (aka librarian) at North Buncombe Elementary since 2012.
Mission: To foster the love of reading for pleasure and curiosity, to teach skills for locating and using information, and to support classroom instruction.
I believe that a child's imagination is the starting point for creativity, curiosity and exploration. By inviting children to engage in pretend with me and by welcoming their pretends, we share experiences which can extend into written expression.
I've been an educator since...well, a long time. My professional journey began in St. Cloud Minnesota with a degree in education for exceptional students. This track took me from Minnesota to Wisconsin to Oregon, Missouri and coastal North Carolina. During that time I earned a Master's Degree in education from East Carolina University. Once I became an ECU Pirate I loved it so much I stayed for another Master in Library Science. In 2017 I earned the National Board Certification for Professional Teaching Standards and renewed this in 2022.
I collaborate with the classroom teachers by using both SeeSaw and Google Classroom for Learning Management Systems.
When not pretending to be the queen of the Library (thus the tiara), I enjoy spending time at home with my family and pets, travel and reading lots of good books.
