No physical card will be issued. The student only needs to know their student ID number.
Your library card number is your student ID number (aka UID, lunch number). Your PIN is the last four digits of your student ID number. For example, if your student ID number is 1234567, then your PIN is 4567.
BCPL has 13 locations all over the county. Here is more information.
That depends on what kind of book you are looking for.
For physical books, you can search their collection here. You can place holds on books, have them sent to your closest library, or have books pulled and ready for you to pick up. You can also just show up, pull books off shelves, and give the librarian your student ID number to check the books out. But for these books, you will have to go in person to one of the libraries.
Digital books are a little different. Digital books can be either electronic books or electronic audio books and can be read or listened to on any wifi enabled device with the right apps. You can search their digital collection here. To actually read the books on a device, you need either the Sora app or the Libby app. Sora is provided by the school and you login through IAM and Clever. This is what you would use to read books on your school laptop and it also provides access to our digital collection, so it's the one we suggest. Sora is available in all of the normal app stores so it can be added to any device. The public library also provides Libby, which can also be downloaded onto any device from the normal app stores, but that app will only access the BCPL digital collection.
Yeah, I hear you. Both of these are apps through which you can access digital collections, that is ebooks and audiobooks that you can read and listen to on any wifi enabled device.
Sora is provided by the school and is suggested for students. Here's a walkthrough for how to access it and add your libraries.
Libby is the one supported by the public library. Here's some information from them.
When a book is currently checked out by another user, you are able to place a hold that will reserve the book for you when it is returned. It's like a place in line. You might be next in line, or you might be 10th.
NCCardinal is a library loan partnership with libraries across the state. Basically, if BCPL doesn't have a book but one of the other NCCardinal libraries does, you can request it and they will send it to your nearest library for you to pick up.
No. BCPL will only charge the cost of replacing books that are never returned. Digital books (ebooks and audiobooks) return automatically on the day they are due unless you renew them.
10 physical books and 6 digital books (includes both ebooks and e-audiobooks).
