Program Overview
NCSSM offers challenging STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses to students across North Carolina. There are two types of online NCSSM courses.
NCSSM Connect: Interactive Video Conference (IVC) courses allow schools to enroll one or more students in an NCSSM course. Students must be virtually "present" in the course during a specific time, during which they interact with the instructor and other students in the class via teleconferencing hardware. Students can only be registered for these courses by their high school. If approved, these courses will appear on a student's BCS schedule and transcript.
NCSSM also offers an online course of study that requires students to individually apply to be enlisted in NCSSM. These courses are asynchronous (the students do not have to be online at specific times). Students who pursue this option may work with their high school to include a period in their schedule to work on the online NCSSM course, but the course itself will not appear on the BCS schedule or transcript.
