Welcome to English Language Arts Class with Mrs. Toney
I am looking forward to working with all of you and to practicing our reading, writing, thinking, and speaking skills--myself included. People can achieve greatness with these skills, but no one is ever done mastering them. You'll be required to practice them all the time in class.
Class Materials
The expectation is that you are ready for class with the basic materials every day. See the list below for what to purchase/bring:
Notebook paper (college ruled preferred)
Your district-issued computer - charged
Pencils
Pen
A notebook, composition or spiral
A 3-ring binder or pocket folder (one with three sets of brads in the middle would be great)
Class Organization
This is not an online course, and it is not set up to be one. Attendance is not optional; come to class every day barring illness or events truly beyond your control (NOTE: a job, sports, or other extracurricular activities that you choose to do are not beyond your control to plan for; work will not be excused for them). Assignments will be on Moodle or Google Classroom. Many assignments will be in-class and/or on paper. You will miss learning if you are absent: some work you will have to make up, and some you will not be able to make up. For more on this, see the syllabus linked above.
Class Texts
All class texts will be provided.
Academic Success
Students who make a good faith effort to rise to a challenge, complete and submit assignments, and communicate their needs will succeed in this class. The only path to failure is a string of zeros and an apathetic attitude. I am available to offer help before or after school (see the tutoring schedule below), as well as over Google Meet if transportation or scheduling issues arise. Don't let anything hinder your achievement!
