This year in ELA, we will be using the Wit & Wisdom curriculum, which includes four modules.
Module 1: Cultures and Conflict,
Module 2: Word Play,
Module 3: A War Between Us
Module 4: Breaking Barriers
We will help students become successful readers and writers by building their knowledge and skills.
In Module 3, we will be studying many ways in which war affects people and the many consequences of war. We will read analyze photographs, read firsthand accounts and a historical fiction novel to answer the question: How did the Civil War impact people?
Students will be looking closely and finding the impact of the Civil War on boy soldiers, women and girls, free people of color, and the family in the historical fiction novel. In class students will be learning point of view of different soldiers, sides of war, and characters. As well as finding the positive and negative impacts of war and writing an opinion essay about the impact of war on boy soldiers .
