Teacher Forum Vision and Organization

Vision

Berkeley County School District's Teacher Forum will be a dynamic teacher led team who serves as a supporter, a voice, a liaison, and an advocate for our teachers and students in order to:

Be a facilitator to promote and maintain effective communication regarding successes, needs, and concerns, among all stakeholders through various face to face digital and Professional Learning Communities;
Support and strengthen the implementation of our unified curriculum, unified assessments, and professional learning communities by collaborating with The Office of Instruction and Accountability to create a bank of technology resources, illustrate best practices and provide an additional method for constructive feedback;
Educate and empower teachers to take action and make informed decisions on current legislative issues and upcoming elections impacting education through electronic updates, direct communications with legislators, and panel discussions hosted by the Forum;
Monitor and improve teacher morale by assisting schools with administering needs assessments that target morale levels in order to build a community network that increases the recognition of teachers;
Recruit, retain, and recognize amazing teachers by promoting professional development with Forum sponsored scholarships and being active participants at special events in coordination with the Office of Leadership Development and Evaluation and the Office of Communications.

Organization

The Berkeley County Teacher Forum is comprised of current and past teachers of the year from each school in the district.
The Chairperson of BCTF is the immediate past District Teacher of the Year. The Co Chair is the current District Teacher of the Year.
Current Teachers of the Year are referred to as Jr. TOYs. Former Teachers of the Year are referred to as Sr. TOYs.
Teacher Forum meets monthly at Min Riv Educational Center. See below for meeting schedule.
Teacher Forum is governed by the Teacher Forum Leadership Advisory Council, or LCAC, which meets monthly prior to Forum meetings.
LCAC is comprised of the Chair and Co Chair (defined above), Jr. and Sr. Honor Roll Teachers, Chair/Co chair from each TF committee, one elected member at large from each level, elementary, middle and high, and District Liaison.

Actively participate in monthly Teacher Forum Meetings

Recognize excellence and share during Spotlight month (attend Board Meeting)

Make connections with other educators to empower your home schools

Continue to learn and share information with your home schools

Affect change by actively participating in your committee work.

Meeting times are from 8:30am to 3:30pm

Monthly Spotlight School Representatives attend Board Meeting at 6:30 pm.
