MEET the TEACHER

This is my 21st year teaching middle school. Wow, time flies. All but two of those years have been right here in Berkeley County. This is my 3rd year at MMSOA. I spent many years at Hanahan Middle, a couple at Sedgefield Middle, and a couple in the District Office as a teacher evaluator. I have taught all of the core subjects at some point during my career. I have a BS from College of Charleston and a MEd from The Citadel, am certified & highly qualified in Middle School ELA & Science, and have the Gifted & Talented Endorsement.

I absolutely love teaching middle school students. This is the most fantastic age group of all time (to me at least). They are delightfully quirky and have a special way of seeing the world and its people. Students at this age are trying desperately to find their way in a rapidly changing world. They are stepping out of their homes everyday rooted in the values of their family, encountering (sometimes colliding) with others’ firmly rooted values that may challenge their own, assimilating all of it, and finding their own place in the big picture. Whew...no wonder they are exhausted at the end of the day. Being a middle-schooler is no easy task. It’s quite an honor for me to be a blip on the timeline of every student who passes through my class on their way to greatness.

Outside of school, I have another quirky bunch. I am also lucky enough to be the mother of Grace, 10th grader at Wando High, & Noah, 8th grader at MMSOA. Both kids went to Hanahan Elementary. They keep themselves busy evenings and weekends with dance, drama, music, soccer, and homework (argh!). I keep busy keeping up with them and volunteering...LOTS of carpool. We also have a dog, Sadie, and a cat Sugar. Sadie is a frequent carpool rider while Sugar holds down the fort.

A quick note about my name...FELLER is my maiden name which I keep professionally so former students can always find me. OBSTBAUM is my married name and Grace & Noah’s last name. People outside of school know me as Christi Obstbaum, Mrs. Obstbaum, Miss Christi, Miss Noah’s Mom, the red-head with the loud laugh, Mrs. Andrew’s sister, Bob & Karline’s daughter...I answer to many things…
