Delegates,
I am so excited to welcome you all to this year’s Beekmantown Model United Nations 2025 Conference. Alongside your advisors, you are joining an outstanding staff of Secretariat who are as excited as we are to see the fruits of your hard labor over the past month. As you begin your journey through Model United Nations you will learn the essence of negotiating: public speaking, research, writing, and teamwork. While these skills may seem trivial in the present, they are essential to living a successful and happy life. As your Secretary General I look forward to seeing your realistic solutions to these evolving issues. While we run fast paced committees I look forward to seeing each and everyone of you engage with the topic at hand. These committees may be daunting at first, but I look forward to your solutions and cooperation throughout the day. Your discourse on these complex issues allows you to view government and world politics from a new perspective and provides valuable insight into the creation of a better future for ourselves and those who come after us.
This year’s Conference will tackle a range of issues pertinent to the current global political climate and issues you may not realize affect your everyday lives. From Political Establishment of New Governments and Shifts in Power, to Legal’s Disarmament of Biological Weaponry, to ECOSOC’s Environmental Impact of Fast Fashion, your decisions on these issues may have real time effects on the globe. As you begin to research and debate these in depth topics we encourage all to tackle these issues headon no matter your experience. Do not be afraid to speak up for your nations and savor your time here. While it may be a beginner conference, it is the perfect way to start your MUN career and experience the thrills of debate. Everyone has had their first conference nerves before, so you are not alone; find other delegates and work together to overcome your fear. Through the fierce debate remember the core values of Model UN: compromise and cooperation. Your way is not the only way and these values may be the key to your success in committee. Sovereignty and your nation's views are important, but so is compromise. The next few hours of your day will cover lots of debate and information so don’t be afraid to speak up and craft your own skill. These trivial skills may seem silly now, but they undoubtedly will assist you in your future.
I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge all the time, effort, and hard work that was dedicated to making this conference what it is today. Your advisors, the Secretariat, teachers, faculty, and lastly, all of our delegates. The passion you bring to the table to address these pressing issues allows are conference to be as successful as it is.
Lindsey Shanley
Secretary General of BMUN 2025
Welcome delegates to the 2025 BMUN Political Committee! My name is Orion Winnicki and I will be working alongside Loghan Strickland and Jose Susano Trujano for this conference. The topic for Politics this year is the "Establishment of New Governments and Changes in Political Power”. This committee will be covering subjects such as the rise of new nations, governments, and civil wars. It is critical that the UN has a way to protect newly developing nations, and can clearly define the rights a government has. When a new political party arises that divides a nation, what should the UN do to provide aid? I am excited to see what kind of debates occur and how this topic is handled in committee.
A bit about me, I am a Senior here at Beekmantown. I began Model UN in 8th grade, and have loved it since. I have always been an avid debater, especially when it came to topics that affected such a large scale of the world. I loved educating myself on the different sides of the argument and forming my own opinion on what seemed best. It was truly my mother, older sister, and teachers who pushed me into MUN, and I cannot thank them enough for it. I have always struggled a bit socially, been too nervous or awkward when it came to things like speeches or networking, but Model UN created a space for that ability to grow. With time, I found I no longer needed to write down every word I wanted to say, and could speak more clearly than I ever believed I could. Another passion of mine is acting. As a proud participant of the BHS Drama Club, and quickly was able to connect these two. They truly aren’t too different, and I found that committee was just yet another show--- this time with a little more improv. Instead of playing a character, you represent a nation’s delegate. You perform with every speech, every question, and every unmoderated caucus. You create your own character, your own script, you become your own director at that podium. There's magic to Model UN. For just a day, you can form yourself into an entirely different person.
During the committee, I want to see this. Be creative with your speeches, step out of your comfort zone, and truly perform. Try to stay true to your nation’s beliefs instead of your own; it will set you apart. It’s normal to mess up: I’m sure this is the first time many of you have even been in a committee! I am so excited to see how the debate unfolds and what kind of performance you put on.
Feel free to email me with any questions! I wish you all the best of luck,
Orion Winnicki

To the delegates of the 2025 BMUN Economic and Social committee, welcome; I am Shamus Bibeau a Senior football and lacrosse player here at Beekmantown high and will be the director working alongside Jasper Burdo (sr.) and Calum Anderson (jr.). I am so excited to share this conference experience with you all this year. After years of committees I can proudly say that Beekmantown Model UN is one to enjoy. Communicating with peers on a deeper level to accomplish common goals, devising plans to succeed in competition as well as learning and observing the point of view of persons across the globe is all a part of this game. I have hopes to aid in the debate of effects and preemptive measures of fast fashion, as well as the use of exporting labor, side effects, and negative effects on the general population as well as the possible economies that could be crushed by changing long standing norms in the labor and production industry. Furthermore the panel encourages respectful communication and workmanship throughout the conference to create a place where real change can happen.
To expand on a bit about myself, I began MUN in eighth grade. I was eager yet timid. Through many conferences, and time in between, I grew to enjoy not only sharing ideas, but also to being the one that stands out and creates something new. I loved the fluidity of the game and how you can create something from nothing if you grow a support team. MUN as a whole has a main purpose of communication and confrontation, with having an opposing side constantly there is a battle to see who will have a larger impact on the people. I loved the competition and I hope you all do as well.
Best of Luck,
Shamus Bibeau

To the delegates of the 2025 BMUN legal committee, welcome; my name is Adam Burnham and I will be your director for this year's committee. Now, a quick statement about myself. I am currently a senior at Beekmantown playing on the varsity soccer team. For the past 4 years, I have been competing in MUN competitions, winning multiple awards and acquiring vast knowledge about our world's complex issues. However, I would like all of you to remember throughout the committee that BMUN is a learners’ conference. With this in mind I encourage all of you to step outside your comfort zone whether that means answering questions for your bloc or simply asking a peer what their nation believes. The goal of this conference is to improve and work together to diplomatically solve the matter at hand. As committee director I encourage each of you to speak your nation's point of view, create new and innovative ideas, acting as if you could initiate the change because one day you just might.
Best of luck,
Adam Burnham
