Rotation 6
For this rotation we will travel to Mexico and revisit the popular movie called Coco! Learn about Mexican folk dance, geography of Mexico, and the colorful attire of old Mexico. Also, take a step behind the scenes of Coco the movie, and get to know the main characters and actors. For the reading piece, we have Danza! and we have a special surprise for you all! What are you waiting for? Let's start Rotation 6 and end the school year with some shoe stomping zapateados!
Rotation 6: 23-24 (Coco-Mexican Folk))Rotation 5
For this rotation we will travel to Hawai'i! Students will learn about the US island and mos importantly about Hula dance and POlynesian culture. Students in TK-2nd will Learn the dance Sassy Little Mynah Bird and 3rd-6th will learn Pearly Shells. There is a literacy component and simple art activity as well. These dances can be performed by everyone at the end of day 4 with leis. Aloha!
Rotation 5 23-24 (Hula)Rotation 4
This rotation will focus on cultural information and dance from indigenous, native American populations. Students will review what they know about the Yokuts form our local area. Students will also learn about other indigenous nations across the US. A special focus will be made on PowWows and traditional dance of the Ojibwe Nation. There will be a cutlural artifact to make at the end of the lesson.
Rotation 4 23-24 (Indegenous PowWow Dance)Rotation 3
This rotation will focus on body percussion, how to make music, and how we can make music with no instruments. Also, students will learn about and how to do a simple step dance which is all based in body percussion. For the culminating project, students will learn how to do a 30 second step dance with a short chant that promotes their after school program! Don't forget to read and have students follow along with a classroom copy of The Electric Slide and Kai by Kelly J. Baptist.
Rotation 3 23-24 (Body Perc & Stepping)Rotation 2
This rotation will focus on the basics of country line dancing. For the littles it is exploratory, simple, and fun. For the older students it will be more of the same with added complexity to the steps, yet still very simple. The end goal for the littles is to be able to do 2-3 very basic line dancing steps and for the older students a more polished routine. There will be time to explore various line dances and use a prop too...a western hat! No stress. No fuss. All fun!
Rotation 2 23-24 (Country Line Dancing)Rotation 1
Students will learn about the elements of movement and dance. Students will begin by learning about their sense of space and place on the dance floor. Movement begins gradually and eventually evolves into a dance.
