When school buildings are closed, BCSC may implement a Virtual Learning Day (synchronous learning). A Virtual Learning Day is a structured, live instructional day. Students participate in real-time instruction with their teachers throughout the school day.
Unlike eLearning days, Virtual Learning Days require students to attend scheduled live classes.
On a Virtual Learning Day:
Students attend live classes using Google Meet at scheduled times.
Teachers provide direct instruction, discussion, and guided learning.
Attendance is taken in real time.
At least 50% of the instructional day is delivered through live instruction, in alignment with Indiana Department of Education requirements.
Assignments are typically expected to be completed by the next school day.
Students will follow a modified daily schedule. Specific schedules vary by grade level and school and are shared by each school. An overview of each school's schedule can be found on the Virtual Day Schedules page.
Attendance is taken during scheduled live sessions. For middle and high school students, attendance is taken during each class period. If a student is unable to attend due to illness or other circumstances, families should contact the teacher. If a tech problem creates difficulty when joining live sessions, the family should contact the Tech Hotline to receive support and next steps: 812-418-0252.
On a Virtual Learning Day:
Teachers will communicate schedules and Google Meet meeting links through Canvas.
Live class sessions will occur during scheduled times.
Students should log in at the beginning of each scheduled session.
Teachers will provide instruction, guidance, and learning activities during live sessions.
Independent practice or follow-up work may be assigned after live instruction.
Each Virtual Learning Day includes:
Students may:
Log in to their device
Check Canvas access
Confirm Google Meet links work
Contact tech support if needed
No live instruction occurs during this time.
Students attend live classes
Teachers provide instruction and guidance
Attendance is recorded
Students may also complete independent assignments as directed
Food services may not be offered on Virtual Days. However, after 2 consecutive Virtual Days, when safe and appropriate, BCSC leadership will evaluate offering lunches at specific locations. Information about lunches will be communicated through BCSC communication and social media channels.
