About the author
Thank you for visiting the Captions for All website! All instructional tips and resources featured on the site were created by Brenny Kummer. Brenny Kummer is the Coordinator of Instructional Technology for BCSC in Columbus, Indiana, graduate student in the Educational Technology program at the University of Arkansas, and former social studies teacher. In her school district in Columbus, Universal Design for Learning is the district instructional framework and guides instructional planning, learning environment design, adoption of educational technology resources, and drives staff evaluations. An advocate for accessibility, inclusion, and Universal Design for Learning, Brenny has experience teaching in full-inclusion class settings of students with significant intensive needs as well as ELL newcomers. In particular, supporting deaf and hard of hearing students is a particular personal interest for the author as she has a childhood friend with significant hearing loss and co-taught several deaf and hard of hearing students with the school district sign language interpreter and deaf/hard of hearing specialist. She has presented at UDL national and international summits specifically on topics related to leveraging instructional technology to support students, particularly special education students. Brenny runs an educational technology website, Fresh BCSC Tech, to provide tech tips related to UDL and learner variability.
