About the Tri-M Music Honor Society
The Tri-M Music Honor Society is a prestigious national organization that honors middle and high school students who demonstrate excellence both academically and musically. It provides recognition to those who go above and beyond in their musical pursuits and encourages leadership, community service, and music advocacy. With over 1,800 chapters in 50 states and 15 countries, Tri-M engages more than 75,000 students from grades 6-12 each year.
As a program of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), Tri-M aims to cultivate the next generation of leaders in music education, fostering a passion for music while encouraging students to give back to their communities. Tri-M members contribute over 750,000 service hours annually and raise nearly $1 million to support causes they believe in.
How to Join BCS's Tri-M Music Honor Society
Selection Process:
To be considered for membership in BCS's Tri-M Music Honor Society:
Application (This Google Form).
Two Teacher Recommendation Forms that describes the student’s Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character.
After a review a of Applicants: Performance on their instrument/voice or a presentation on a musical topic for Faculty Committee and Current Members.
Four Criteria for Tri-M Membership:
Music Participation
Candidates must be in grades 6–8 and have been enrolled for at least two semesters during the current school year in one of the following BCS Middle School music programs:
BCS Band Bands (Woodwind, Brass, or Percussion)
BCS Musical Theater
Academic Achievement (Scholarship)
Students must have maintained at least an 'A' average in their music ensemble class(es) and at least a 'B' average in all other academic subjects during the previous semester.
Leadership and Service
Prospective members must show leadership qualities both within the school and in their community, demonstrating character that inspires others.
Character
Strong character is a key requirement for Tri-M membership. This includes qualities such as respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
Note: Any disciplinary action from school administration may disqualify a candidate for consideration during that semester.
History of Chapter 9833 – BCS Tri-M Music Honor Society
BCS's Tri-M Music Honor Society Chapter 9833 was founded in 2017. Since its establishment, the chapter has led numerous community and school service initiatives, showcasing the leadership and commitment of its student members. Some of the impactful projects include:
Performing for local nursing homes
Organizing performances for the school and wider community
Leading peer-tutoring sessions in music
Hosting seasonal service projects to honor BCS faculty and staff
Providing lobby music for school concerts
Serving as greeters at school events
Celebrating Music In Our Schools Month with student recognitions
Assisting with band/choir organization and facility maintenance projects
Through these efforts, BCS's Tri-M chapter continues to inspire positive change within the school and the broader community, while fostering a love for music and service among its members.
