Our end of the year class celebration will be on Tuesday, May 23rd at 8:15 in our classroom. Students will enjoy breakfast treats and sign yearbooks with the other two classes. At 8:55 students will go to encore until 9:35. During this time parents may help clean up from the celebration. At 9:45 we will head to the cafeteria or gym for the year end awards assembly. This should last about 30 minutes with the conclusion around 10:30.
April 24-28
There will only be homework on Wednesday and Thursday night this week. There will be no homework on Monday or Tuesday due to our Reading SOL test. The next bullet point ONLY applies to Wednesday and Thursday.

Tuesday, April 25th--Reading SOL test
Test tips: Go to bed on time to get good rest. Eat a healthy and protein rich breakfast. Be calm, all students are ready to show their best efforts.
Thursday, April 27th--James and the Giant Peach field trip to the Roanoke Children's Theater.
Please don't forget to pack you child's lunch if they chose to be packers.
April 17-21 Earth Week

Wednesday, April 19th--Students will go to Salem Memorial Field for our field trip to watch the Salem Red Sox play. Please remember if your child is packing a lunch to send it in a disposal bag with a disposable drink. Also, please have your child wear Greenfield Elementary spirit wear, Fun Run shirt, or navy/green. If you child brings any baseball things like a hat or glove it will be their responsibility to keep up with it. I will not to be able to manage extra items on top of my other responsibilities during a field trip.

PTA board meeting at 5:45. All parents are welcome to attend. Second graders will be performing after the board meeting concludes. The meeting will be held in the art room and the performance will be in the gym.
Mr. Painter will be visiting our class for 4H to discuss resources of Virginia.

Mr. Painter visits on Friday for our monthly 4H program.
The science museum will visit our class on Tuesday.

Read Across America Week
Dear Families,
Greenfield will be celebrating all things books and reading for Read Across America! We would love for your student to participate. We will be celebrating the following spirit days:
Wednesday, March 1st- Team Up with a Good Book- Students can wear their favorite jersey or sport shirt. We will be teaming up with Buddy Reading today!
Thursday, March 2nd- Crazy About Books- Students can wear crazy hair and/or crazy socks. We will do a teacher swap for a read aloud today!
Friday, March 3rd- Cozy Up with a Good Book- Students can wear pajamas (no slippers) and bring a flashlight. We will enjoy flashlight reading today!

We will be having the following Spirit Days:
Monday -Parent-Teacher Conference Day
Tuesday- Be Kind and Loving - Wear a heart (Valentine’s Day).
Wednesday-Be a Kindness Superhero- Wear a hero costume or t-shirt. No masks, please.
Thursday-Let Your Kindness Shine- Wear sparkles, shiny things, or neon.
Friday-Our Students Are Kind- Wear spirit wear or school colors (green and blue).
Parent Letter:
Your child received 5 paper hearts in his or her green dragon folder this week. If you catch your child being extra helpful, considerate or kind, please write your child’s act(s) of kindness on a heart and send the hearts back to school in your child’s folder. We will share the acts of kindness with the class and post the hearts around the school building.
We will also be holding a canned food drive the week of February 20-24 to spread kindness in our community. Please consider sending in non-perishable food items that can be donated to the Botetourt Food Pantry.
Specific foods requested by the Food Pantry are:
Breakfast items such as cereal, flavored oatmeal and Nutri-grain bars
Canned fruit
Hamburger Helper (they provide meat)
Other non-perishable items are also appreciated
