Our students and staff are disproportionately affected by systems of inequity and injustice.
"The historical, generational, and compounding reality of the systems, structures, and practices that have intentionally created and continue to perpetuate racial inequities must be acknowledged and removed to ensure positive educational outcomes for children" (BCPSS Equity Policy).
The current pandemic and recurrent, disproportionate loss of life by BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) at the hands of police, further illustrate these systems of inequity.
This site was created to serve as a living resource hub for Staff in order to empower us to meet students where they are and teach them to the best of our ability.
Briefly check in with yourself and/or your colleagues.
Consider asking the following questions:
How has this pandemic and current events affected me emotionally? Physically? Financially?
How has this pandemic and current events altered or shed light on what you believe about education?
How has this pandemic, and the current tensions across our country, affected your relationships?
What has the pandemic, and current events, illuminated for you?
What limitations, either personal or professional, have you uncovered as a result of current events?
What issues of equity have you found yourself focused on or passionate about?
Am I in a place to engage in learning about inequities and race?
