Our school serves as a place where students are able to receive a high-quality education free from the distractions of their everyday lives. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, students no longer have access to this traditional school environment, a place of safety and stability for many of our students.

How COVID-19 has laid bare the vast inequities in U.S. Public Education
Consider the following:
Is the student's household healthy and are their basic needs (food, safety, and shelter) being met?
Do students have other responsibilities, such as caring for siblings and/or their elders, employment, etc...?
Do students have individual, shared access, or no access to computers?
Do students have internet access?
Is the amount of work assigned achievable with the other challenges they may encounter during the week?
Kids from low-income homes are three times more likely not to have consistent access to a device.
As we continue to work with our students in this very new environment, keep these factors in mind as we are addressing each student.
All students are not living the same experience as their peers or teachers. We must acknowledge, value, and empathize with the different lived experiences of our students and believe they can achieve in order for us to engage each student equitably.
This means meeting students where they are and providing appropriate and differentiated supports that each student needs to be successful.
