As we are a part of the STM community, we are also all a part of other communities and are called to serve in various ways. This page offers opportunities to connect, partner, and work alongside churches and organizations in the greater Boston area.
Finding a local faith community is an essential part of making Boston feel like home. Thankfully, the greater Boston area offers a rich variety of both Catholic and Christian communities. The parishes and churches listed below are some of our student's favorites. If you need help finding the spot that's right for you, feel free to reach out!

A Night of Lament for Racial Justice | The Gospel Coalition
In keeping with TGC’s theological vision for ministry—especially our commitments to countercultural community and doing justice and mercy—we’re inviting you to pray with us and believers from around the world. God hears when we pray. Let’s call on him to act again, that justice might be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Say Their Names Vigil | Joe Penny, MATM '24 & Jackie Regan, Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Career Services
"Good Evening and Welcome! Thank you for joining us tonight as we remember those who have fallen victim to police brutality and acts of senseless violence. Tonight’s vigil carries with it a particular heaviness. With that being said, please be gentle with yourselves and with one another. I now invite you to begin to quiet your mind, open your heart, and settle into whatever posture you find most conducive to prayer."
Requiem for Black Children of God | Bishop Fernand Cheri of the Archdiocese of New Orleans
"O God, author of true freedom, whose will it is to shape all men and women into a single people released from slavery, and who offer us a tome of grace and blessing, grant to your people, we pray, that, as we receive new growth in freedom, we may appear more clearly to the world as the universal sacrament of salvation, manifesting and making present the mystery of your love for all."
A Prayer Service for Racial Healing in Our Land | United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
"Racism has rightly been called America's original sin. It remains a blot on our national life and continues to cause acts and attitudes of hatred, as recent events have made evident. The need to condemn, and combat, the demonic ideologies of white supremacy, neo-Nazism, and racism has become especially urgent at this time. Our efforts must be constantly led and accompanied by prayer—but they must also include concrete action."
STM Service of Lament and Hope
"God of compassion, like our ancestors in faith we have cried out to you in lament. Hear our voices. See our tears. Brighten our hearts with the promise of your coming and awaken our hearts to its light. Let us discover new hope that radiates from Christ's presence amongst us. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen."
Lament and Hope: Prayers for Liberation and Healing | Seattle University Campus Ministry
"Gracious and loving God, we are gathered here today to engage our imaginations for liberation and healing in this community, in this nation, and in this world. But we confess today that we are quick to judge one another and slow to act for justice, equity, and compassion. We are quick to ignore or smooth over broken places among us, too fearful to work for peace and healing. We are quick to share our knowledge, but slow to temper that knowledge with the love and wisdom that leads us always closer to the truth. In small and large ways we are overwhelmed by all we cannot do. For all the times we fail to affirm and promote the inherent worth and dignity of every person, when we do not affirm and promote the goal of a world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all when we live as though interdependence were a personal choice and not a fact of our existence, we ask forgiveness of one another and we vow to begin again, in this and every moment."
An Examen for Racism | Patrick Saint-Jean, S.J., Society of Jesus
Racism is a sin that grows year-round in the hearts of many. These seeds, germinating for more than 400 years in hatred and oppression, devastate the Black community each time there is a new bloom. America’s epidemic of racism is slowly killing the people of God. Fifty states and 18 countries have taken part in protests to raise awareness of this epidemic. The pain and anger of the last few weeks lead us to ask: How can we work toward antiracism in our own hearts, churches, and country? Now more than ever, I believe Ignatian spirituality is an important means to help each person who desires to live with justice, dignity, and equality seek God in the midst of everything. Through this examen, we will start the work of antiracism by examining how systemic racism influences our lives and how we practice the sin of racism.
An Examen for White Allies | Maddie Murphy, Ignatian Solidarity Network
It is essential for us as white allies to lean away from apathy, cynicism, and passive, complicit ignorance - lean into a vocation that we as people of faith and justice are called to: to be racial allies in a society steeped in White Supremacy.
Prayer to Address the Sin of Racism | United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
"We pray for healing to address the persistent sin of racism which rejects the full humanity of some of your children, and the talents and potential you have given."
Prayers for Racial Justice and Reconciliation | Xavier University
"Father, Bless us as we strive to find our way to true racial reconciliation. Open our eyes to all that goes on around us that contribute to racial injustice. Grant us the knowledge to understand all that we do, both personally and as a society, which prevents us from recognizing and defending the dignity of all our brothers and sisters, and especially at this time, our brothers and sisters of color who are now feeling so much pain."
@Blackliturgies | Cole Arthur Riley, Instagram Platform
"ON JUNETEENTH: The memory is one of tension. Grief as we remember this country has a history of proclaiming liberty while doing nothing to tangibly ensure our protection until it benefits whiteness. And joy as we remember that even still, our liberation cannot be kept from us."
Praying for Change: Daily Prayers for Anti-Racism | The United Methodist Church, Discipleship Ministries
While the headlines may have receded, the sin of racism continues to be seen and felt on both individual and systemic levels. Dismantling racism is not a short-term task but a lifelong moving forward to perfection in love—to use the founder of the Methodist movement, John Wesley’s words. Therefore, Discipleship Ministries and other agencies and bodies of The United Methodist Church will continue to provide resources and guidance on how to become anti-racist individuals and churches.
A Prayer of Reminder and Turning | Callid Keefe-Perry from the National Council of Churches United Against Racism: Churches for Change
"To those who struggle daily to seek out some way when there seems no way, grant that we find one another, are humble as needed, and bold when required. Allow us to know one another in that which is eternal, to strengthen one another, and to lift one another up with tenderness."
Know Justice, Know Peace: A Jesuit Anti-Racism Retreat | The Jesuit Post

It will consist of twelve short talks published on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday starting August 3, 2020.

Novena for Racial Justice | Ignatian Solidarity Network
In the Catholic tradition, a Novena is an ancient prayer tradition, consisting of prayer for a specific intention over the course of nine days. Through this Novena for Racial Justice, the Jesuit and broader Catholic network is invited to unite in prayer for nine days, framed in the example of Catholic saints and servants of God who provide a witness and example for us in our work for racial justice.
2021 Lenten Racial Justice Prayer and Reflection Resource | Society of Jesus
USA East Provincial Fr. Joseph O’Keefe, SJ, has called each Jesuit to pray and reflect deeply on racial justice and equity work, suggesting that Lent may be a time to undertake this effort. We are asked to examine our conscience, no matter where we are in our lives and ministries, confront the reality of racism, and ask how God is calling us to respond.
