INTRODUCTION

JANUARY 18TH

SYLLABUS AND BC IRB

Seim et al. 2024. “Taking Ethnography to Court” (working manuscript)

Seim et al. 2024. “Melting Consent” (extended abstract)

Carefully review this website before our first meeting. Note that all students are required to complete 20 hours of in-person fieldwork. The drop deadline is January 25th. You should speak with me as soon as possible if you have any concerns about your ability to conduct fieldwork for this course.

If you have not done so already, please complete the CITI training and email a copy of your certificate to me directly. You should also familiarize yourself with BC IRB’s templates for consent and recruitment as well as the Cyber IRB protocol submission system.

Finally, please carefully read “Taking Ethnography to Court” and “Melting Consent.” The former is a working manuscript for the courtroom study and the latter is an extended abstract for the gig work study. The coauthors are students from last year’s Craft of Ethnography course. These will give a you a sense of what the two collective fieldwork projects entail.
