The President
The UGBC President is the chief executive of the undergraduate student government.
That means the President:
I. Proposes the annual UGBC budget at the start of their term
II. Sets the executive agenda for the year
II. Executes and advocates for legislation passed by the Student Assembly
IV. Represents undergraduate students directly to the Boston College administration
V. Appoints divisional directors and leadership teams (with Student Assembly confirmation)
VI. Has veto power over legislation
VII. Can issue Executive Memoranda directing executive action
VIII. Appoints a Chief of Staff
Most importantly:
The President decides what priorities are placed on the table. The budget proposal defines what the administration believes student fees should fund. The initiatives pursued define what the student government chooses to fight for. The President cannot change university policy alone, but they shape negotiations, funding priorities, and structural reform within UGBC.
Leadership determines direction
The Vice President
The Vice President serves as President of the senate.
That means the VP:
I. Runs weekly senate meetings
II. Sets the legislative calendar
III. Oversees debate and voting procedure
IV. Maintains official UGBC records
V. Casts tie-breaking votes
VI. Ensures legislation moves through proper channels
The VP ensures that legislation is handled fairly, efficiently, and transparently.
A strong President–VP partnership means executive priorities can actually move through the legislative process.
